    I agree, it's about finding a balance. Should the system be adapted to get cash more support from the midfield or our centre halves. While cash has been over run at times, weve not conceded huge amounts and neither of last nights goals were a result of Traores lack of tracking. Arguably it's a problem but the additional goals traore brings are a trade off worth taking.

    Deano has said he wasnt ready, might not risk him in the cup but expects him to be fit for spurs. Which is pretty much what weve heard for the last 5 weeks just swap the team names around. Time to start accepting that these things are kept pretty close to the chest at villa now.

    I think while Barkley is out and Watkins isnt scoring, we cant risk dropping a player who is. Barkley is key as it allows Grealish to play wide left and he gets closer to Watkins. I'm not sure if either has scored since the Watkins injury. Trez is undoubtedly a better option to support Cash but in the same respect, Traores quality is the final third is significantly better. A simple look through the trezeguet highlight reel this year will show you that. Nice problem to have.

    At this moment I cant understand the logic for a right winger, traore, aeg and trez can all play there. Surely other positions a priority.

    The problem we have is that we have to tell people were a big club, our actions over the last god knows how many years havent backed that up. I agree with the sentiment, we should stop worrying about jack leaving and start being the club he shouldn't want to leave. Breaking into the England side was important, signings like Barkley are important (and need to be replicated), I think we probably need to qualify for Europe this year as well.

    Careful what you wish for, that additional running contributes a lot to how high we press and our continued defensive resilience. I wouldnt change the way he plays, I'd look to find somewhere who does it just as well so that we can give him a rest.

    But if you're comparing him to trez you also need to compare trez's goal scoring and assists. I'm not defending his defending, its poor, buts its surely not what we bought him for. In the final third, he is providing a threat.

    He went down softly but it was a stupid position to put us in. Jack will get his fair share of those. I think not having an option off the bench has cost us tonight. Maybe Barkley would have made the difference.

    Soft pen but a stupid challenge to make. Glad to see us go there and battle, I was convinced we had a handball shout at the end as well.

    Well taken goal but not his best game. Odd that a guy playing in a front 3 is consistently criticised for his defending though.

    Mings mis times the header, mcginn and Anwar were too slow to react to the run, konsa didnt track martial and no one laid a glove on pogba when he was jogging the ball. Not one players fault, lots of time to prevent that goal.

    Were comfortably in this game and have dominated large parts of it. Switched off for the goal but looked good defensively, luis and mcginn running large parts of the midfield. Need to do more to test them at the back. Dean will give them a boost and we'll come out strong.

    Playing Jack left and switching Anwar to the right side might help Watkins, hes been very good on the end of crosses across the box, his two disallowed goals were also those. The problem with playing traore right and anwar left is that both are encouraged to cut onto their favoured foot and take shots. This dramatically reduces the number of crosses across the box where Watkins thrives. Interested to see if that changes tonight.

    I fully expect and hope he is picked tonight, hes just a better player than Hause and brings a level of leadership that we need.

    I've a few, leeds cup final an obvious one, blues 5-1, tranmere semi, inter milan, Atletico madrid but more recently it was the brighton win with the Matt Targett last minute winner. Main reason was watching it with my ten year old, the first time he'd experienced that type of emotion and we were only 10 yards from the goal.

    You are right, to be fair we have played a few different systems with our front 3 this season. At times weve seen Barkley higher and the wide 2 pulled back. The key as you highlight is flexibiity. At this moment though ive only really seen Watkins as effective through the middle.

    i wouldnt let him leave in Jan, he undoutably has a role to play, only a couple of covid results from the starting 11.

    even Smith has highlighted that Watkins allows us to defend 15 yard further up the pitch. I just dont see him pushing Watkins wide. Wesley will offer some impact and potentially a different system for certain games

    I think weve also setup well for Martinez, our back 4 are narrow, it means we concede more crosses and less shots through the middle. I think this suits martinez, mings and konsa

    Not sure if its been mentioned but a great interview with Mings on the high performance podcast. Really insightful, digs into his background, motivation and process ahead of games. It's a bit on the serious side so may not be everyone's cup of tea.

    I'm not expecting any signings unless they were young lads with an eye to the future or at the other end of the spectrum a forward to give a goal scoring option off the bench.

    Still human. The premier league didnt have 19 covid cases 2 weeks ago. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here.
