  1. All good points. I enjoy your views and like the debate.
  2. Agree, we will all have to get used to the fact that progression will likely mean signing better players than mings, Watkins, cash, etc. Note, I like those players, just wondering how many of our current team could play for a top 4 side.
  3. Rather than a benteke, if were serious about progression, we will need to sign a player better than ollie watkins.
  4. Surprised by the barkley criticism, though he looked really good in the final third, rusty yes but dictating the play and most importantly getting close to Watkins. Probably the first villa player to get within 10 yards of Watkins in the last 8 games. No surprise for me that he was in the box to score that header.
  5. Yes, he also gives Martinez a great option to play the ball into his feet a lot like petrov used to do. I'd enjoyed nakambas energy last night but I was terrified every time he took the ball with a newcastle player behind him. Being a DM is no longer about making a series of tough tackles, its about positioning, being comfortable on the ball and intercepting play so you don't need the tackles.
  6. I think it's all a series of tests and scans now completed at any independent hospital. The villa side will review the results but I think the days of sending your physio to watch someone on a bike are gone.
  7. I thought he looked a little rusty at times but his positioning and how he dictates the play in the final third are fantastic. Hes making better players of Watkins and traore and we all see the relationship with Jack. He'll keep getting better, just need to see if his body can stay injury free. I also loved that he did not want to come off and could clearly sniff a goal.
  8. Superb game, people are often critical of his defensive work, i get that but he was bought as a winger/second striker and I think until the last few years he wouldnt have expected to be tracking full backs. The game has changed and unfortunately exposed a weakness. The key bit for me is he makes himself so influential in the final third that the opposition full backs are scared to cross the half way line.
  9. Seems very sensible to buy a player that could play 6,8 or 10. Gives us many options. I'm similar signing to cover both full backs would also be good.
  10. I've said a few times but barkley back is so important to Watkins. Firstly it means that grealish plays left so better service, secondly barkley gets much closer to him allowing him to get in the box more. Expecting goals in the next few weeks.
  11. They didnt need to check anything. If the cross goes straight to Watkins, they would have checked the cross. Because it comes off the newcastle players, theirs nothing to check. It's a **** stupid rule either way.
  12. Loved it, wondered if theyd do it sooner to protect any silly yellows
  13. we dont know who was suffering from covid and whether they have got 90 mins in them. could be that is the reason we are not seeing elgazi and ramsey?
  14. great player, played a huge part in keeping us up with some vital goals and assists. also nice to see him go out and chase playing time. would have been easy to sit on our bench and collect his wages.
  15. Thought he looked like a bloke who hasnt played since November. Ease him in, get him fit, will add quality as he did before.
  16. The power of VT, i had a glance at the facebook photos and thought if only some well meaning forum had produced a consolidated list.
  17. never heard of him but i can understand the logic. weve had to compromise Grealish in the last few games as we have such a gulf between our starting midfield and the options. Definitely starting to trust our scouting options, high percentage of our players are proving effective additions.
  18. i think the prem rules dictate you have to play with 14 fit players, i think the only reason the everton game was postphoned was the training ground had been closed and the players had no time together. We'll definitely just be getting on with it wednesday.
  19. My married married a girl who thought dragons were just extinct, you know, like the dinosaurs.
  20. But you might have to rely on someone. Couple of players out with covid, couple of injuries and you're into the second string. I'd have him in over Nakamba.
  21. That's because weve played quite a few games less that other teams. That will catch up with us and we need a squad, particularly for our central midfield. Hes never going to dislodge those above him but it doesn't mean we wont need to rely on him.
  22. What a great night, a superb goal, the uncontrollable tears of pure emotion, the shirt swap. Hes pretty much just lived the dream of every young villa fan growing up and I felt all of it in that interview. The battle to be composed, talk intelligently but just wanting to blurt out words and never stop smiling because you're a kid. Love him.
  23. What a moment, god only knows how good he is or if he's even ready but sometimes a chance comes along and you've got to take it. What confidence.
