  1. Makes you think what could have been if we had beaten Wolves and Southampton in that dreadful run. Then again, would we have won 4 out of the last 6 without the management change.
  2. Would probably take £1.5mil at this stage, let alone £15m. wasn’t entirely his fault of course, but it’s not going to happen here for him.
  3. Sanson and Buendia to start. Purely because both of them will be fired up to prove a point, albeit to different people.
  4. Important to note that after the Liverpool game, the sides we are yet to play in the first round of fixtures are Norwich, Leeds and Burnley. Probably the lowest average position run of fixtures in the league. I know they are not the next three fixtures, but the point stands. If we maintain our good form, there are 9 points to be had there, and we could conceivably be looking at top 7. Having said this, we will probably beat Liverpool and get a point from those three now.
  5. Have to say I thought he was out of contract this summer, but Gerrard says he has 18months left. Feel a bit more at ease at the contract situation, but still need him to sign on.
  6. Couple of nice touches there. Fair play to him.
  7. Funny how people see the same game. I thought he was one of the better players on the pitch for us today.
  8. Amazing statistic. That as John Percy has eluded, may be the ultimate thing that brings him down, not the 5 in a row so muchZ
  9. Thanks for the great times Dean, genuinely. I think it’s for the best for all concerned now.
  10. Understand what you are saying. He went through personal tragedy whilst with us and did stop the boat sinking. But he was never a long term solution in my eyes, and the obvious Smith/Villa connection gives Smith the edge.
  11. I think this all stands on a knife-edge - and I have never felt that I've wanted a manager to get it right quite as much as I have with Smith. I really think whatever happens in the next 3 weeks, he has been a great success for us and we need to remember where we were and where we are now. I think there are two footballing outcomes from the Southampton match - Ings comes back and does them over in a comfortable Villa win, or Ward-Prowse scores a 25yrd free kick condemning us to defeat and Smith to a dismissal.
  12. This is probably the first time the owners have a genuine decision to make regarding the manager. Bruce was such an easy decision. I think the players body language might be telling us everything. Just so lost out there.
  13. So easy to forget he is only 26, and his best years are probably still a couple of years away.
  14. Feel bad for the guy, clearly very upset at having to come off.
  15. Shout out to Nakamba. Though he was so assured when he came on tonight. Even made a few runs and incisive passes.
  16. Unfortunately for him I think his opportunity will come in the cup game against Chelsea, and that will be extremely difficult to leave a lasting impression.
  17. Apologies you may be right, but you highlight a really good point. We are really going to have some selection headaches this season, especially with El Ghazis seasonal purple patches, the emergence of younger players such as Philogene Bidace and also because now we have tactical options rather than having to go 451/433 like last season. I really do think Bailey is going to be the jewel in the crown though, he has proven himself at the highest level.
  18. Ollie - Ings - Bailey even more so! Things are starting to look up now.
  19. Probably doesn’t mean a great deal, the arrangement of overdraft facilities provides more liquidity of sorts in the short term. Nassef made an absolute fortune during Covid, so I doubt he’s particularly worried about our relatively small profit/loss account compared to his huge multinationals. My guess would be that this is nothing more than a company taking advantage of a vastly improved credit rating, and securing a debt facility it would previously be unable to obtain. Good business practice.
  20. 100% and that is the way it should be. It certainly will be interesting to see the nature of our sponsorships now we are established again.
  21. I don’t think it’ll be a sweetheart deal or overvalued at all. As a shareholder he would look at synergies and mutually beneficial arrangements, Adidas taking control of our distribution channels benefits them too.
