  1. First time I have ever given Emery a very poor rating. It doesn't take a lot of research to know that our victory against them last year was largely due to McGinn and Buendia making life hell for Dan Burn. He was so badly worked over in that game that they replaced him after 60 minutes. This game was made for Bailey with an overlapping Cash. Instead, an out of form Diaby and 4 largely static central midfielders across the middle made the starting line-up. Reminded me of Dean Smith and his 5-3-2 experiment - all the attacking responsibility on the fullbacks. Played perfectly into the hands of a Newcastle side that can press and man-mark in midfield. Poor.
  2. I bet Dan Burn still has nightmares of being hounded here by McGinn and Buendia last season. I would have hoped Emery started Bailey against him - he'd have a field day with Cash overlapping
  3. Geeez, Martin Tyler is getting on. For our game against Newcastle: "Bailey and Watkins lead the line" - errr, that's a photo of Diaby. It even has his name. "Isak has scored in the last 3 outings for Liverpool and they haven't won any of those games." Say what? We haven't even kicked off yet!
  4. Yep. Dont stand so close to me. Every breath you take. A few other good songs too.
  5. Still stand by my signature below at the time the majority on here wanted his head. We lost 1 of the last 7 games, including wins against Arsenal and Liverpool - which people unbelievably attributed to McAllistar - to finish 9th despite flirting with relegation through most of the season. Sadly, he never got the chance to prove me right or wrong.
  6. Problem with this video is that it makes sense - to everyone outside Birmingham, that is. I've never been to villa park (and likely never will) and I'd hate to see the ground moved - but can see the sense in doing it. I've never been affiliated with the round badge (despite being Gen X) since I only started following Villa since the early 90's (thanks, Bozza!) But when you talk about a world-wide audience - they are in exactly the same position as me. If your remit is to tap into that market, you will probably end up making decisions that hurt the locals.
  7. Watching his highlights - he looks ungainly and awkward. As if he can't really do the things he's doing (e.g. half falling when shooting). Love it. There's nothing harder to defend against than the unknown. He's not a forward you can easily read.
  8. Fernandez, Antony and Greenwood? Wait... Antony doesn't score.
  9. Remember - Beale was the brains of the duo. Once he left, Gerrard was completely lost.
  10. The guy that came up with the phrase "Sh*t happens", which sold a gazillion t-shirts and bumper stickers. ... can't quite remember his name but he was running across the width of the USA at the time in protest about his girlfriend Jenny, or something.
  11. Been watching the "Get Back" documentary with my 18 year old son who has taken a keen interest in the Beatles. As a result, been listening to the "Let It Be" album, but was disappointed that the album dropped our favourite song:
  12. The man breaks all sorts of records with us - including his own of never having a PL nil-nil draw!
  13. Yep, noticed that and came here to post it. Mind boggling decision. Didn't cost us today, but his brain-fades and needless fouling are getting us into trouble. We need Torres and Konsa in the middle of defence
  14. Not as bad a result as it seems. Yes, Everton are thugs and bullies - just like Newcastle - but we kept a clean sheet 3 things I learned: World's No 1 goalkeeper? Nah - he's better than that. An overlapping Cash starting would have been perfect against this anti-football lot Tarkowski is Ben Mee in disguise.
  15. Hmm... knew I recognised the name. Was head coach of ALeague side Adelaide United and later returned - disastrously - to the Aleague side Western Sydney Wanderers, where he only lasted 6 months. Still a good appointment for a youth coach - but that is his limit.
  16. Love him. Would have made a huge difference if he was in the squad this season.... .... and, imo, he still will towards the end of the campaign
  17. Hmm.. weird, eh? I agree - he's unlikeable. But, imo, so is Klopp. So is Pep. So is Thomas Frank. But he's not doing a bad job and the trend has been upwards with him. He's spent plenty but still less than Chelsea who are much worse off. They are in a bad patch, but they stuck with him in the first season when things were rough and reaped the benefits. I just don't see the reason fo (what appears to be) the sudden hate for him from Arsenal fans.
  18. Scored twice for us against Brentford in a 4-0 win at home last season in October 2022, no? He looked pretty good then too.
  19. 8th, 8th, 5th and 2nd ... and they want him out? True - they might not win it this year and might not finish as high as 2nd - but is Arteta really that bad?
  20. VAR get so many things wrong that you'd think they were doing it on purpose. ... so which is the lesser of 2 evils?
  21. ... which could get them into big trouble according to this bloke:
  22. .... and that ends the argument about our penalty being soft.
