Unless he agreed to take a reduced rate of course, but why would he? The only other option is to let him go on a free. The most important thing is we do get him off the wage bill. Not sure how much he is on, but i bet its double or even triple what Bentekes earning at the moment? 2-3 players of the same calibre as Benteke or Westwood, makes us better. Cant see us bringing in a winger, not since Lamberts stumbled on to the present formation. Attacking wise, we are fine and will continue to get better as Benteke and Weimann develop. In midfield we have Gardner to come back and we also have Carruthers waiting in the wings(excuse the pun!) My guess is, Lambert will concentrate on addressing our defensive weakness by bringing in a central holding midfielder and central defender, both of whom will be experienced and proven. Then its a case of filling in around the edges, replacing the likes of Ireland and Bent with hungry young players.

I dont usually do that BBC predictor, since im always wrong. But i tried it yesterday and have us finishing 14th on 41 points with Wigan dropping out on the final day over Sunderland. What plays into our favour is the run-in of our rivals compared to ours. In fact, i have us safe with two games to go. For me, Fulham has now become our most important game of the season.

Im a big fan of Bent and am proberly one of the few that believe him and Benteke could play well together given a run. However....... Lambert does not come across as a guy that would single out a player and intentionly not play him if that said playrs attitude is right. I really do believe that Bent himself, is the reason why he seems to be on edge of things. Off couse, injuries do not help, but in this case i think there is more signs of an attitude problem at Bodymoor rather than injuries. Im also pretty sure that we would have sold him in January, if it were not for another injury.

Once he gets rid of the rashness in his decision making, we could well have a regular England centreback. The lad oozes class, and the struggles of this season will have made him even better since its been a massive learning process for him.

It is. But defending is collective. Lambert identified that in January and wanted to put it right by bringing in some experience at the back and central midified. Who let him down?

Its buying duds at the wrong age. Buying young means they have more time to develop. Benteke WILL find it harder next term, but he will be still learning and developing. Others like KEA, Bennett , Westwood and Lowton may just kick on. If they dont, they still have time, and we should have a little more experience in the squad then, which will help!

A few weeks ago, i was saying we are gone. I just dont see it now, i really believe we will fine. Teams have blinked, we have a farly good run in, fixtures for other teams, and by pure bloody luck, i see us limping over the line

I bet every team could mention one player and talk about how they could be better off. I'm not a professional scout but I'd be amazed if we couldn't get a couple of decent players for £5 million and £30,000 a week wages each. Are you really suggesting that our money could not have been spent better? The defence is a shambles. KEA, Bennet and Bowery barely play and contribute very little. You're honestly going to argue that it couldn't possibly be better? The same Bennet who has played 23 games...... If he played fifty games, does that make him any good? The guy is simply not a defender. Wide midfielder, yes.....with promise. But leftback? really?
