  1. I am in row 27 Upper Holte K5 and NEVER sit during a game, just feels wrong. I become much more engaged with the game whilst standing compared to sitting, mind you I feel knackered after the final whistle - feel like I have played for 90 mins
  2. I really must find the time to start listening into this gem of a program
  3. A mate of mine at work suggested that I go shopping at the supermarket at the busiest time and try and pay with a combination of vouchers (some of them out of date and the wrong brand of supermarket) and cash (mainly coins) and not quite having enough to pay for the shopping. Meanwhile the queue gets longer and longer with very annoyed customers . It what oldies do isn't it ???
  4. Well I started my apprenticeship as a marine engineer in 1974 when I was 16, coinciding with Villa's centenary. Now 50 years later, it seems perfect for me at 66 in June and Villa 150 years old! I think its important to keep mentally and physically fit as well as having interests outside work. But I guess the first working day of my retirement I will be thinking now what?......probably I will be waiting anxiously for my highlight of the day....."Bargin Hunt" I am going to volunteer for a day or so a week at my local hospital in Bury St Edmunds. It is certainly going to be different, so if anyone who has retired has any advice then I would welcome it !
  5. Well I have decided to retire at the end of this month, so next Thursday is my last day of work (I hope). I turn 66 in June and am fairly healthy and run 5km Parkrun's on Saturdays. My Mum is 90 this year and although has lost a lot of mobility she still fortunately has no signs of dementia. My Dad (Holte Ender in the Sky), died of cancer before he reached 71. The thing is none of us know what's round the corner, my old man was 68 and fit as a fiddle 2 1/2 yrs later gone... I just hope to be able to drive the 2 hr journey to VP and back and be able to stand with the mad buggers at the back of the Upper Holte in K5 for as long as I can.
  6. Reported that Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel has died, only 73....
  7. Just checked in to Star City Holiday Inn Express and there are at least 6 cars in the carpark with Netherland reg plates and a couple of Ajax supporters checking in. Thought it would easier to fly than drive....
  8. I have just noticed that Wet Spam are playing tonight at home but 0-1 down from the first leg. Let's hope their game is a full blooded end to end match and goes to extra time. Don't care about the result as long as they are knackered and pick up some injuries. And we win 9 - 0 in normal time
  9. Been watching "The rise and fall of Boris Johnson" on the telly box. I cannot believe how out of his depth this fool was....
  10. I predict that either Villa or Ajax will go through to the next round after tomorrow nights game
  11. I think to be brutally honest that teams have found a way of how to play against us. Emery has been said to study in minute detail other teams and tactics....and thats fine, but we are deluding ourselves in thinking that other clubs do not do the same thing and examine how the Villa are playing and work out how to negate us! Moyes and the West Ham staff will be already looking at what Spurs did to us and Luton etc and prepping in advance of the West Ham game. Since the start of 2024 we now seem to lack speed of thought, tenacity, determination, will to win, to grind out results. We go one nil down, its a struggle to see us getting back into the game, go 2 nil down there is virtually no way back and the opposition teams know this. Not sure why this is, is it the players?, tactics?, crowd? Lose against Ajax as badly as we did against Spurs then we are in danger of losing momentum at a critical time of the season.
  12. I wonder if Spurs looked at McGinn and maybe targeted him to get him sent off - yes I know it is the realm of conspiracy theory. But.... All teams that play us know that McGinn is a key player for us. Spurs contrive to get him sent off, Spurs are are rivals at present in the league McGinn misses the next 3 key premier league games It was to Spurs advantage to gain by winding McGinn up It has been said for years that many of our players are a bit naive and either do not understand the "dark arts" or are unwilling to step down and use them as well. We are sometimes too nice, kind and obliging
  13. TRO, as always, great comments and the voice of reason.
  14. Is McGinn still eligible to play on Thursday night? Does the straight red card mean he misses the next 3 premier league games or the next 3 which includes Ajax?
  15. I think I would sooner sha struggle to avoid relegation in perpetuity down the bottom of the championship than get relegated and win a few games and potentially squeeze into the league 1 play off final... But then again to see them struggle to avoid relegation in perpetuity down the bottom of league 1 would be even better ...
  16. I am 66 in June and have been following the Villa when everything was in black and white, where wearing a top hat, having a moustache and a monocle was compulsory, even for women...
  17. No doubt he will play the best game of his life tomorrow against us and in front of conk face
  18. I normally never by replica shirts due to the rubbish gambling logos But I would buy a Villa shirt with Acorns on it....please Villa make it happen....
  19. Insurance for the wife's 2022 Toyota yaris with direct line last year was 380, this year 720! No claims, nothings changed etc... Shopped around on compare the market site and got exactly the same cover for 320. Told direct line to do one.....despite them saying they can get the renewal price down to 550..... It's an annual joke, you just have to put a bit of effort in. If direct line premium was an increase of only say 20 quid then I would have accepted the auto renewal and they would have retained a customer and I would have been none the wiser that I could get the insurance cheaper. Unfortunately no doubt I will have to do it all again next year. Best of luck!!
  20. Even if we were winning at half time against Sheffield united 87 - 0 sky still wouldn't mention it...

    Running

Watched my daughter run the Cambridge Half marathon yesterday she did it in 2hrs 4 mins. The winner was some bloke who ran the 13 odd miles in 64 minutes............how the hell does anyone "normal" do that?
  22. Try using Star City, it's free, but about a 20 to 25min walk from there to VP
  23. But "oily" lawyers will always find a way round it though...
  24. Two legends of the 1977 league cup semi final 2 legs and the replay at Highbury, both gone at the same time. Hopefully they are swapping stories wherever they are. Thanks Chris and Stan, two legends of the game, RIP lads. Condolences to their families
