  1. Purslow is normally so cocksure of himself but you would hope he is feeling some heat right now. If not then we really are in bigger trouble than perhaps we realise.
  2. Thought Saka had him on toast last night. Way too easy to get around him.
  3. This is the best crest we've had in my opinion. If we can make a 'modern' version, with a standalone lion and 'Aston Villa' on there, that will do me. Drop the star, drop the shield.
  4. Wow Rob I couldn't agree more... Thanks for this and pleased you spoke a lot! You've summed up a lot of my sentiments there. Like you say, our current look and feel is very muddled, disjointed and, well, "template-y" if that makes any sense. I completed the survey and wrote that I'm not in favour of a return to the round badge... I want something that is unique, like us. I also think trying to shoehorn in the star makes a mess too. My concern is that - going off the North Stand designs - it will be pretty conservative and safe. And round. Undoubtedly most of the feedback will be in favour of that.
  5. Only just seen that he has gone to Sydney FC... that's a pretty cool move I reckon. Will be a great experience and they will love him there no doubt.
  6. Like many, I've always had a bit of an issue with Purslow. Simply put, I don't trust him and I think he puts too much faith in his own judgement and his own football knowledge. He is a fantastic businessman and really good at the commercial side (as he showed at Chelsea). But I wish he would keep out of things like managerial decisions altogether - his track record is pretty dismal.
  7. Fantastic in the air.... I remember him having a very shaky debut but since then has been pretty solid. I reckon he should do well at Watford.
  8. In some respects, it should be the West Ham game that is definitive. If NSWE have real ambition, then West Ham will be one of the clubs we are looking to leapfrog. If we lose - with the same lack of cohesion we lost with at Palace - then Gerrard should be fearing the worst. New guy will get a free hit with Arsenal and Man City.
  9. Going way off topic here but most journos have a beat. So the idea it is a networking event is not true. They will know most of each other. The point about click bait doesn't make sense either in lots of ways. Watching today's presser, I agree that Gerrard got fairly anodyne questions from the TV media - which probably indicates that it is early days and no one is going to go to heavy on scrutiny of certain aspects just yet. Lots of other things to discuss (Lampard head to head being one that more people would be interested in). There might be some more interesting questions/comments coming out in the written section tomorrow.
  10. Yep tomorrow's presser (I presume it is tomorrow) will be interesting. Like you say, scrutiny of his position is mounting and the Mings affair has become a real talking point. Arguably the first time in his short managerial career he has had such pressure?
  11. I'm also of the mindset that we should keep him in the first team squad. You'd think that working daily with someone as experienced in the art of goalscoring as Danny Ings will only help enhance his qualities further. I'm super excited by Archer.
  12. On the face of it, this looks like a great appointment. Knows Gerrard, is clearly an excellent coach (one of only 16 worldwide to have a UEFA elite badge according to wiki at least) and has bags of experience. Well done Villa.
  13. But not sure we can afford to have Young 'learning on the job'. It's a big ask as far as I can see... trying to make up for the loss of experience left by Beale's departure. Not saying it cannot be done, but I would have thought prior experience would be a requisite.
  14. From a sentimental point of view, I would love it. But would either of them fall in line with Gerrard's ideals/personality? I have no idea. To be honest I'm a bit stumped on this one.
  15. Xabi Alonso seems to be very well spoken about at Real Sociedad... did a good job over his three years there with the B team. He is going to be linked with a million jobs - have already seen speculation about Club Brugge, Sevilla, Cadiz...
  16. One thing with Mings (and this maybe is not a 'Mings thing')... I get frustrated watching us play the long 'out ball' which invariably gifts possession back to the opposition. My perception is that when Mings goes long (which more often than not he does), it tends to be either onto the defender's head or pretty aimless. Like I say, that could be a coaching thing more than something for Mings to improve per se. Martinez's distribution also you could look at. But last night felt like we gave the ball back to them far too easily at times.
  17. Coutinho for €20m is, as everyone is saying, a no-brainer. What an amazing deal!
  18. This is it for me also. He is great at the commercial side no doubt, but as soon as he starts talking about footballing matters it leaves me cringing. I wonder now if he still feels the same about buying Grealish in the 'aggregate'. Sounded great, but hasn't really delivered much yet has it?
  19. I watch a lot of Atleti and I wouldn't want Suarez. His pace has long since gone and he relies on his 'canniness' more than anything else. Although he is a super clever player, I think he would struggle.
  20. Much coveted he maybe, but so was Gary Gardner at his age. I don't think this is a good approach from him or whoever is representing him. Presumably someone has turned his head with the prospect of more money.
  21. I'd love to know who were the other names on our shortlist of 4...
  22. We need Luiz and/or Sanson fit. Simple as... they have to play if we are to have a chance.
  23. I think we overuse the long throw thing. And I think neither Bailey (in particular) nor Cash (less so) have particularly strong throw ins. We lose so much time when we go through this - centre halves lumbering up, players wiping the ball dry etc. I reckon it is a good 30-45 seconds if not more. For me, throw-ins should be timed to stop time wasting (10 seconds a throw would be enough I reckon), but that's another topic.
  24. Platt I was gutted. Weirdly enough I wasn't too upset when Yorke left... you could see the vultures circling. In recent years, more than Barry or Young it was the departure of Cahill that annoyed me.
