  1. Absolutely spot on. The most sensible post of the day.
  2. What an embarrassing bunch of over reacting individuals some of our fans are. Get a grip. This thread is astonishing……….By the way. Poch would never come here in a million years! Support your team or find something else to do. It’s the first game of the season. We were poor. It happens. We’ll be better next time (hopefully!)
  3. Didn’t we then fail to win any of our next 19? Just goes to show how you get unusual opening day results. I think Bournemouth went on to finish in the top half that year! Anyway. 0-2. UTV
  4. I watched Arsenal v Palace last night. The Palace team is full of big, strong blokes. I still feel that we are lacking in terms of physicality, particularly in the midfield three. We are desperate for a destroyer in there and I still fear for us until we address this. Hopefully a new 8 will be signed who gives us more energy and physicality in the middle three. If not I can see Tim getting some serious minutes this season. Having him, Bouba and one other suddenly feels a lot better.
  5. It’s amazing how good we are at working under the radar. Not a sniff of this and then boom! £20m for an eighteen year old. Credit to the management for playing this so effectively.

    Passport problems

One of my work colleagues has just had to cancel his summer holiday. His entire family applied for new passport’s in March. They have all arrived apart from one for his daughter which is still pending. I wouldn’t believe everything you are being told there. Maybe tell your son to hang fire on plans if possible.
  7. To be honest, they have looked good. Without the ball they are league’s ahead of us. I think they will finish top 4 this season now that they have a decent manager
  8. Agreed. Our two 8’s have been awful. Totally passed them by. Kamara has also struggled but that’s understandable. Coutinho has been poor too but a lot of that is to do with the lack of quality behind and in front of him. We also need a forward. Ings has been awful. He actually looks disinterested. We need some pace and physicality in midfield and up front.
  9. I have often thought that he is much better and more effective when he comes on for the last 30 minutes or so, compared to when he starts matches. Maybe Gerrard is getting it spot on and using him in this way is bringing the best out of him. The effective use of subs is becoming more and more important. That’s why Eddie Jones refers to his as finishers. They aren’t reserves or subs, they are specifically chosen to cause damage later on in the match.
  10. This guy deserves a bump. He was excellent today. If Emi gets injured we have a great deputy to come in and fill the role. Great to see.
  11. I like Ollie a lot. He has been great for us and I still think he is our first choice number 9 but his miss today is a great example of why he will never be a top player. It was such a great chance. He had all options open to him. He could have scored either side of the keeper, tucked it between his legs or the easiest option to take it round the keeper and roll it into an open net. Instead he hit it straight at the keeper who does make a very good save. A top level striker does not give the keeper a chance there.
  12. I think he will stay and I really hope that he does but I feel pretty confident that both Tim and AJ will have better careers than him. Carney is a really talented boy but I’m not sure his style really suits modern football. He is amazing in broken play when he gets in between the lines but I think that Tim and AJ have an overall more positive impact on the team. They are all really exciting talents to be fair. Good times.
  13. Leeds just lost their best and talismanic player. They also have have Ted Lasso in charge. Plus our transfers in have been significantly better than theirs.
  14. I really used to enjoy VT but it has become painful in recent months. The constant negativity from some posters and totally unreasonable arguments against Gerrard are tiresome. I just can’t be bothered to read the same old rubbish time and again. I think that Gerrard will prove you all wrong but he may not. I and all other reasonable fans will enjoy giving him a fair opportunity either way. Until then I think I’ll leave VT alone. UTV. SOTC.
  15. It’s so nice to see this lad get some games now. He is our best current prospect in my view. He’s big, strong and has a lovely range of passing. He also reads the game better than any of our current midfield options. I think he’ll play for England many times.
  16. I agree. They also have 3 really tough games coming up which they could get no points from
  17. I did see that. Selective memory!
  18. He played wide right yesterday and then moved wide left when Emi came on. Wide right is supposed to be his most favoured position. The formation was not the reason for his poor performance yesterday.
  19. How many of those were in the PL? How many goals did Sancho get last season in the same league? He’s proven to have been a total waste of money so far too. Maybe being successful in the Bundesliga is not necessarily a suitable barometer for success elsewhere. Keep up your tirade against Gerrard though. It in no way makes you look immature.
  20. Will a decent set up and a real manager help him to hit an enormous target from 12 yards? He should have scored against Spurs and Leicester and yet he didn’t even manage to get either shot on target. Bailey has been really poor so far. He doesn’t look to have anything special in his game and he doesn’t deserve a place in the team. This is not the manager’s fault. He didn’t spend a fortune on him. Stop using every opportunity to have a go at Gerrard.
  21. Everton are in big trouble. They should have stuck with Rafa. We will be well clear of it come the end of the season.
  22. Targett has always been fine when things were going well, as they have been during his time at Newcastle but he is the first to hide in the corner at the very first sign of trouble. He is utterly gutless and Newcastle will find that out very quickly when this current purple patch ends. Which it will. Hopefully he will be their problem when this happens.
  23. Yes mate. It’s no longer the peoples game. My Dad used to take me and my sister to home games in the mid 80’s. It would cost about £10 for admission, a programme and a bag of Chips on the way home. He definitely would not have been able to afford what that would cost these days.
  24. After years of under investment and terrible leadership, I think that a lot of people can see that the direction of the club has significantly shifted in the right direction. This season has been poor but with continued investment from NSWE and the continued development of our youth we are not far away from being a reasonable force again. People can get on board with the potential and this is what drives the demand. It’s a bit unfair on those that have been there through thick and thin for sure.
  25. Buendia is not really a wide forward. He is an inside forward really and better suits our formation now than the one we played under Dean. Bailey has just not done anywhere near enough to justify a place in the team. He has been a massive disappointment to be honest. He could still come good but my gut feeling tells me that it’s more likely that he won’t. To be fair, our squad may have been set up to play with wide forwards but every time we have tried that formation, without Grealish, we have been awful. We just don’t have the quality to do it at this level. Everybody talks about it as if Gerrard is really missing a trick by sticking to his system instead of reverting back to a system that consistently failed every time that jack was unavailable. People have incredibly short memories.
