Pre-Match thread

Embarrassingly, I take great pleasure from kicking off the match threads so thought I'd get the first one for this season up and running.

Have absolutely no idea how we'll line up on Saturday, although the biggest clue is probably from the team that started the game at Forest. Our new players are going to need plenty of time to gel and establish a fluid style to their play so I've slig worries over that. My other worry is that it's always very tough playing newly promoted teams at their place for their opening game. We fell short at West Ham doing so as well as at Pompey some years ago. If we can keep their crowd quiet and get a grip on the game (ie, not concede first) then we may be able to create some chances. Their crowd will be chomping at the bit as its their biggest game in their history - Tim needs to keep us composed.

Richards as a CB simply frightens the life out of me so if we haven't brought in another CB this week then I expect him and Clark to be our pairing. I assume we won't have Gil which is disappointing but hoping to see Veretout and Gueye in our midfield.

Would be great to get off the mark with a win but I feel this could be a typical fairytale game for the start of Bournemouth's Premier League campaign. Hope Tim fires us up for this.

Thoughts?

                     Guzan

Crespo   Richards  Clark   Amavi

               Westwood

       Gueye           Veretout

Sinclair                       Ayew

                 Kozak

Left Gestede out as presumably not fully fit and Gil is still injured - assuming crespo is just a knock and that Guzan will be ready.

Subs: Bunn, Baker, Hutton, Grealish, Sanchez, Gabby, Gestede

That's actually not a bad 18 is it?! And then Gil, Okore to come back!

Opening day with a team largely built of players who have never played in the premier league signed for large fees against a newly promoted team who no one is giving a chance of staying up. What could possibly go wrong.

2-1 defeat.

It very much looks like 4-3-3. I'd agree with your back 8 other than Hutton starting. TS has essentially confirmed Westwood starts and mentioned Crespo as a squad player so I think Hutton will play. Richards at RCB is a concern, so I think the PL experience of Hutton will be a deciding factor there.

I'm going to guess at Gestede starting. Crossing fantastic today and Kozak was poor. Sinclair starts for me too but on the left, and think Bacuna will play on the right. Not massively impressed with him in pre-season but he rarely got the opportunity in midfield last season and appears to have shown the manager enough.

We have way more options on the left - Sinclair, Ayew, Agbonlahor and Grealish are all better on the left than the right (Sherwood saying today that Ayew is either a number 9 or LW).

For me, front three is either: Ayew, Gestede, Sinclair or Sinclair, Ayew, Bacuna.

Going to be interesting. If we could win it would be a huge confidence boost and could set up an amazing week going into a fullhouse at VP, sense of a new-era on that friday night game.

That being said the pessimist in me hasnt been killed yet and I have the feeling it will go the same way that opener did when Portsmouth first came up and we were in our new yellow away kit under O'Leary

Playing them at the wrong time but we need points from these early games as these matches are ones we really need to take points from to not find ourselves playing catch-up (so our first must not lose game then ;) ).

I would take a point but think we have enough to win this one as long as we have a 2 goal lead going into the last 2 minutes. I think we might start:

Guzan, Hutton, Richards, Clark, Amavi, Westwood, Gueye, Veretout, Sinclair/Grealish, Gestede & Ayew.

A draw would be an excellent result for us

Really?

Yes given that we have a lot of new players who haven't had much time to bed in and the defensive issues as well as the fact Bournemouth were the best team in the championship last year, small tight ground and their first game they will be really up for it.

I think I would line up.

Bun

Hutton Richards Clarke Amavi

Westwood

Cole Gueye

Ayew Sincalire

Gabby

Thinks it's important to get the most PL experience we can out their against the newly promoted boys. They like to attack, and that front three has some serious pace. Happy for Guzan to be GK, just think that with lack of preparation the defense will be more used to Bunn from preseason.

Defense picks itself imo, just need to rein in richards runs.

Westwood and Gueye are no brained, nice combo there.

Would go Vertout but not sure if he is ready yet, then I think Cole or Bacuna for the time being.

Ayew and Sinclair as inside forwards will trouble them and stretch there double pivot players. Gabby will do what gabby does, but his pace will keep them honest

I'd prefer to see Cissokho or even Baker in the back four rather than Amavi who I think will get destroyed at Premiership level for the early games. Need boring resilience and experience for this one rather than anything more lightweight.

Would take a draw, could win with an early goal and parking the bus but fear 4-1 to Bournemouth !!!

I mean we always look forward to the start of a season anyway right? but I must admit I'm REALLY (big letters, that's how much!) looking forward to this year. I'm sensing the 91/92 vibe. To that end we'll be 2-0 down after 30 mins. Gestede will bundle one in just before half time. Gueye will shoot, keeper will save, Adebayour will snaffle up the rebound. Amavi will be sent clear Staunton + Luna style to win it on his debut.
3-2 villa.
