Another result that will provide plenty of excuses to keep the manager not good enough for Cardiff. Excellent. Hopefully a new 5 year deal for Pogba is next.

2 points off top if they win their game in hand. 9 league away wins in a row. He qualified them for the CL last year, will probably do it again this year.

Could win a domestic cup easily.

They are in a reasonably good place, especially against the back drop of the past few seasons.

Bruce got pelters for suggesting what seems to happen to United every time they drop points. People seem to be desperate for United and Ole to fail. Nobody wins every game.

They ain't winning the league buddy.

Probably ain't winning anything. Not until they get in a proper manager

The tactics yesterday was a prime example in why they won't win anything under the current setup.

I didn’t say they would win the league.

I think they could qualify for the Champions league again, and potentially win a domestic trophy. That’s a decent place to be at the moment. Not brilliant but ok. Not worth sacking the manager for.

If they can sort out their transfer policy and bring in more players who have hit the ground running like Bruno and Cavani then they’ll get closer to a title challenge.

Yes, they lost 3-2 to Leipzig, again, not ideal but not panic stations either. If they get to the Europa league final which is not unrealistic it won’t be a disaster.

It is a disaster.

Not won a trophy since Mourinho's first season.

For a club that size that should not be happening.

They won a couple of trophies in 2017. It’s now 2020 and Ole got them back into the Champions league last year (absolutely essential for Man United marketing and revenue) and has them well placed in the league so far this year at about 1/3 of the season complete.

Ole looks a bit of a wet fish sometimes but it’s not all terrible. Sacking him would be a mistake at this point. Ridiculing him also is not fair.

Theres more space beneath them to drop into than above. Just look at Arsenal who thought they were too good for finishing 4th and winning domestic cups.

They should have qualified after winning in Paris and thrashing Leipzig at home but that shocking result in Turkey cost them dearly in the end. No consistency even in matches. Hit or miss with them. Maybe a new manager would change that but they have had so many managers since Ferguson. It needs more than just a change of manager there.

This is it. They don’t have an identity.
You look at City, Spurs and Liverpool and you can tell what kind of club they are and what they are trying to do. With United it’s a scattergun approach with random signings that don’t seem to fit a specific system.

The pursuit of Sancho summed it up. Someone like that really shouldn’t be the priority anyway with creative players like Bruno, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, and James in the squad.

I think you've had the better of the argument in this thread TBH, but I don't agree with the bolded. For a club like United, it's not just about what they most desperately need on the pitch, but also about the need to be seen to be able to still attract top players, to be an apex predator.

Yep, having such a public pursuit of a player and not being able to land him underlines their problems behind the scenes. They also weren’t able to offer Jack a deal he couldn’t refuse.

Yes, absolutely; the flipside of pursuing 'the big catch' is if you don't get them it looks all the worse.

I can’t think of other big clubs that have these long drawn out transfer sagas.

Feels like it's been that way since the time Everton told them "£26mil for Baines and Fellaini, but you'll need to get the offer in before the end of July" and their reply must have been, "no thanks, we'd much rather wait until the last day of the window to pay the same amount just for Fellaini, thank you very much".

How on earth are we all of a sudden not even in striking distance of Man United?

If we won our game in hand, we would still be behind them.

If they won their own game in hand, they'd be 2nd. Quite a turnaround.

We have two games in hand, if we win both we'd have 25 points. That puts us top 4 and possibly 2nd depending on goal difference and Man City!/United results.
