Take it with a handful of salt but apparently we had scouts watching Wijnaldum tonight.

That bullshitting Itk on twitter who also claimed we were offered Young and he'll be leaving Utd?

I heard that about Young 3 weeeks ago and it wasnt from a twitter ITK account.  Was actually from a utd Fan.  Can't see us taking him back on his wages.

Can't see us wanting him.

Ashley Young, 59 assists in his last five seasons (not counting his injury-ridden 2012/2013 where he only played a handful of games).

Wonderful player, one of the absolute best we have had here the last 20 years.

As for every other player, if an injury keeps a player out for a long time then his reputation falls immediately, same with Young.

Don't think he will come though, he would want to impress David Moyes first. Ferguson played him a lot, and Moyes will too.

Aston Villa punching above weight if landing next target Viktor Fischer scored 10 goals for Ajax last season, Villa's midfield trio scored none in the league

Although he was an unused substitute in the win over Arsenal, few would argue that Aston Villa landed a real coup when signing Jores Okore over the summer.

Okore had been previously linked with far bigger clubs than Villa, but since Paul Lambert’s arrival, a change in ethos and appearance has resulted in Villa being viewed as a worthy club where young players will get opportunities if they work hard.

This is one reason Villa may feel that they can make an even greater statement than that of Okore by bringing in the extremely highly rated Dutchman Viktor Fischer from Ajax.

Fischer is another to have been linked with Europe’s best, with his composed nature, superb technique, dribbling ability and spontaneity all appealing attributes.

A playmaker is the missing piece of Lambert’s jigsaw and attempts to capture Hiroshi Kiyotake from Nuremberg have now been put on the back burner.

Fischer will undoubtedly make Villa a better outfit in possession and his eye for a pass from an advanced position would increase the team’s counter attacking potential further.

However, it is his goal tally from midfield that would perhaps be his most valuable contribution.

Fischer scored 10 goals from midfield for Ajax last season and is already off the mark in the current campaign with a strike in the Eredivisie opener with Roda JC.

Ashley Westwood, Fabian Delph and Yacouba Sylla are arguably Villa’s current first-choice midfield trio, but between them they failed to contribute a single Premier League goal in the last campaign from 54 combined starts.

Villa have already shortened into 6/5 to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season and the signing of Fischer would make it exceedingly tough to predict an outcome in the bottom 10.

But should Fischer arrive, there would be greater mileage in the 12/1 that Villa end up exceeding expectation and finishing in the top six.

On Ladbrokes, any weight?http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/premier-league/aston-villa-punching-above-weight-if-landing-next-target_168670.html

If we signed Fischer and/or Lestienne our attacking options would be absolutely phenomenal for a midtable club.

Fischer would be a huge 'statement of intent' too. In him, Okore and Benteke we would have three very highly rated young players and if we could keep them 3 past next summer we would really be establishing ourselves as a haven for talented youth in the Premier League.

(following on from my last post) It would lead to a  business model that will lead to us being completely self-sustaining and with more very talented youngsters coming we'll be able to start really building something and reinvesting big sell-on fees. It's also a business model that could, assuming you get the right players and build a strong core, be successful for 10, 15 years etc.

Either we build something and start to really re-establish ourselves in the top 6/8 clubs in the country, which would be great, and then go further. Or a conveyor belt of exciting players coming through the doors of Villa Park, which even if we didnt reach the heights we want to as soon as we want too, would also be great for the fans etc.

Brilliant - can't beleive we haven't thought of this before ! -

Makes you wonder why clubs by £40m players - when they are available for £2 - £3m a few year younger........

If we get Fischer it will checkmate some of our rivals

Is it likely Richard? Are we even looking at bringing in more players? Guessing Paul is keeping his cards close to his chest.

A haven from what? Winning trophies and earning big wages? :)

Yes, you're correct...  (edit: how to run the club)

BUT

this all depends on Lambert and how quickly he is willing to move his own purchases to the bomb squad.

For example, analysis was done (which I can't find right now) that said in the business place the best way to get star performers is to hire frequently and sack under performers quickly.

Same can be said for Villa.

No point in Lambert signing players for a million and hanging onto them for 5 years if they are crap.

He needs to ship them off, sign another and see if they turn out like Benteke.

He has yet to move any of his signings to the bomb squad. Not saying he should yet - but it is vital he doesn't stick with them if they aren't up for it.

You can't choose who want to sell unfortunatley.  Theres never a queue of buyers for failed players......ergo there will always be a bomb squad
