Matt Gaetz is finished in politics,  thank ****. Will he do his jail stint before or after the Newsmax gig?

Either way, this is great news *other than the crime, obviously*.

When even Tucker Carlson thinks it’s a weird interview and distances himself from you then you know you are in trouble.

I'm sure the virulent rednecks of Florida's 1st congressional district will barf up another monster in due course, but for now it is quite enjoyable seeing him spectacularly fall apart.

I wonder what it says to those of you that read VT from America that the Gaetz story hasn't touched the British media, but most everybody has been made aware that Joe Biden's dog has bitten somebody again.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I honestly think it's good that most British media outlets are not reporting on the legal troubles of one house member from the minority caucus; it does not affect the lives of British people in any way whatsoever. There's limited news time; outlets should be using it for more stories that matter here.

Also, leave something for us nerds and hobbyists to enjoy on our own!

Indeed - and apparently the big news coming out of the US is dog bites man*

It just seems an odd choice - for me I've only developed my current vague awareness of Gaetz from this thread, but it clearly seems important to our American posters. They seem much less invested in the future of "Major" at the Whitehouse.

*and the Floyd trial in fairness.

Unironically this, about this specific type of story.

Imagine if CNN were breathlessly reporting about Apsana Begum's forthcoming trial for fraudulently claiming housing benefit. Would that ever happen?

I think it’s because we don’t expect any better from American politicians.  Every week it’s something bad by another politician.  You hear a story, add a politician and then it doesn’t surprise does it.

Calm down regarding Gaetz, as the FBI are involved and it is someone else who is the focus of the investigation. We need more details before the guillotine should be taken from storage.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/30/matt-gaetz-federal-investigation-sexual-conduct

"A subject is conventionally thought of as someone whose actions fall within the scope of a criminal investigation, whereas a target is someone whom prosecutors have gathered evidence linking to a crime. But during the course of an investigation, a subject can become a target."

More importantly, why is no-one talking about Biden's dog biting a second person, impeach!!!

Do you ever read anyone else's posts? Genuinely curious. It's not like going back a whole seven posts is a big ask

Biden out with his big tax plan too. He has a very narrow line to walk here.

Expect the republicans to hammer him on this and immigration (border and allowing the h1b freeze to lapse) coming into 2022.

No I'm not feeling ignored because as you clearly didn't read, it wasn't me that posted it nor have I commented on it but It's just rather annoying when people don't actually read what others have written previously, Posting in a topic asking why no-one is talking about X when X was talked about 7 posts before is just rude and ignorant

Kenneth could be banned from having fun while visiting Utah!

https://apnews.com/article/utah-anti-porn-filter-phone-tablets-f8276e2f3e0d682bf7c317860acc2b3c

"Utah is a step closer to requiring all cellphones and tablets sold in the conservative state to automatically block pornography after the Republican governor signed legislation Tuesday that critics call a significant intrusion of free speech."

Fix the roads, education, economy, healthcare... nope, porn!

What does his tax plan do?

More interested in what the polls say about it.  Politicians in US are so divided and have been for the last few years or more that anything the opposition propose, whoever is in the majority, is hammered.

The Covid bill polled well across Americans despite the split in politics.  Even seeing the House members who voted against it going back to their district trying to get credit for the things for their district despite saying no to it.  Madison Cawthorn got slapped a bit on Twitter the other day trying to take indirect credit for money going back to his district.

So getting a hammering isn’t so bad these days it’s how it polls.  2022 will be interesting as well because generally the opposition do well post election in the first mid terms.  Interesting how the tax plan, infrastructure and immigration will be polled.  It’s always going to almost too difficult getting anything through bills though so we’ll see.
