BBC: It is a hot day at Upton Park where the match has yet to catch the imagination. There's just some gentle sparring between West Ham and Aston Villa, with chances at a premium.

So far we have been playing well, we haven't created much but there are positives to be taken from this so far. The newbies are having a pretty good game against a team that is probably going to be their biggest threat from a physical standpoint. Good game so far.

El Ahamadi? Don't think anyone should praise him yet, two grave lost balls in the first 25 minutes and a hopeless shot from 30 yards with no hope of scoring. Pretty good in his defensive game though, even if he lost the ball in dangerous areas.

Delph has been good, finally living up to his former reputation I hope. Fearless and fast when in control of the ball, we need that.

As for Villa, great to see some passing - clearly a restriction towards hoofing the ball. But zero penetration though, we don't score when passing the ball from Delph to Baker x16 back to Given and then repeat. Too few runs and very easy to see what we are aiming for, Darren Bent is clearly isolated because it is too easy for their defenders to pick him up.

Decent start though, I am encouraged already by Lambert's preferred style of play.

The heat could play a big factor in the second half, apparently it's the hottest day of the year so far in London.

Seeing as we're keeping possession much better, hopefully West Ham will tire second half from chasing the ball more

It's been good but a little on the nice side, if that makes sense?

Having seen the fullbacks getting up the field much and Bent hasn't received the ball where he wants it, but that's not taking anything away from the neat and slick passing thus far.
