he's basically been wrestling on borrowed time since and it has finally caught up with him.

Didn't they say this about Angle 5-ish years ago? That mightve even been part of the reason why WWE let him go, I can't exactly rememeber.

It was never the same for me after Shawn Michaels threw Marty Jannetty through Brutus The Barber Beefcake's barber shop window, and The Rockers were no more!

 Sad times.

I remember watching that as it happened.

Remember Earthquake chinning Hulk Hogan on the Brother Love show? Or the Warrior smashing the set to pieces? Do they still have a feature like that on the show now? Somebody like Stone Cold would be brilliant for it.

That was great, i remember watching that! :)

Ive done some digging and it turns out that not all WWE/WWF was scripted.

There was a match between Kurt Angle and Dan Puder which was supposed to have Kurt Angle win after challenging Puder. Now Kurt Angle was an Olympic Gold medalist and Puder was/is a pro MMA fighter specialising in submission.

So Angle & Puder go at it, Angle is supposed to pin Puder and get a 3 count but Puder has different ideas. As they grapple around the ring, Puder gets Angle in a 'kimura' arm lock. One of the refs see this and count out Puder even tho his shoulders are not touching the canvas. A couple more seconds and Angle would have had one smashed up arm. It was legit and Puder would have broke Angles arm big style.

Here's the vid

Yeah, I think they call it "shoot" when things get real, but the script is referred to as "kayfabe"

You could see how pissed Angle was at the end of that though, he refused the handshake (and rightly so) because the other guy was being **** nasty for no reason. Did nobody tell him that pro wrestling is supposed to be Hollywood, not Madison Square Garden. I really liked Angle though, he came into wrestling just as I was moving away from it, but it was pretty obvious he was a really talented guy. Most wrestlers, certainly from the era I watched had an arsenal of five or six moves but he seemed to be much more complete than that. A great top of the bill guy because all of his matches were entertaining.

Never heard about that.

Interesting. was the entire event unscripted, or was the match scripted and Puder just decided to be a dick?

There have been a few "legitimate" fights in WWF. They had some sort of boxing tournament at one point which was legitimate. The guy who won fought Butterbean at Wrestlemania 15 in another legitimate fight Butterbean battered him)

And I heard they had a behind closed doors amateur wrestling competition. IIRC Brock Lesnar won it.

Agree about Angle. He had some genuine athletic talent being a (legitimate) olympic gold medalist.

Plus his character was brilliant, the perfect "love to hate" guy.

Nah, "kayfabe" is outside the ring, things like keeping the illusion of it being real, feuds extending outside the world of WWE (like for instance chat shows) and showing relationships as "real".

Scripted fights are refereed too as "work".

It was unscripted. Puder challenged him after he'd fought the winner of a tough enough challenge.

Best shoot was New Jack supposedly trying to kill Vic Grimes in a scaffold match - he threw him from 40ft up and he missed the tables in the ring, hitting the rope instead. He only broke his ankle in the end, I think...wasn't in WWE though. Have they ever worked a scaffold match? I remember Shane O'Mac jumping off the top of the titantron once.

Matt Hardy interrupting in a match after it emerged Edge had been porking Lita a few years back was legit too, wasn't it? Then they re-hired him.

I watched some vids on youtube recently called most painful moments and botches, some of the stuff was hilarious. Edge and Batista going for a spear at the same time and Batista gets busted open. And the time when Paul London accidentally landed on the turnbuckle wrong and got cut up horribly, was a great crimson mask! There was a Hardcore Holly video on that, maych I hadn't seen from when they resurrected ECW. He suplexed RVD from in the ring out onto a table and got a nasssssty cut on his back. It was CZW worthy :D

Puder later got seven shades of shit smashed into him by Bob Holly, who had a less-than-amicable relationship with rookie wrestlers at the best of times.

Bob Holly had a reputation for basically not "working" and just hitting people.

Best way to make a punch look real? Just punch them in the face.

Apparently that's how Terry Funk used to do it too. Just actually punch people.

Who was the bloke who used to look like Saddam Hussein?

Had a couple of rucks with Hulk Hogan if i remember right?

The Iron Sheik. :D

Bob Holly was a git to newbies generally.

And the New Jack REALLY messed up some kid who went by the name of Mass Transit.
