LancsVillan Posted October 27, 2009 Moderator Share Posted October 27, 2009 Reactions and ratings (though as there was no live picture feed these will be tricky) here please. Super save from Brad Guzan meant we went into Extra-time before.... saving us again on a 1 on 1 and sending the game into penalties in front of the Villa fans. Andy Reid - SAVED by GUZAN 0-0 Carew - Scores emphatically 0-1 Cana - SAVED YET AGAIN by my latest hero BIG Brad Guzan 0-1 Collins - bottom right corner scores 0-2 Steed Malbranque - fluked one ;-) 1-2 Gabby - saved by Gordon! 1-2 Henderson and his big feet - SAVED by GUZAN how can you drop him now? 1-2 Ashley Young - get something right at last we're through 3-1 on Pens. Hereford-Villan
Got to be pleased to go through at a tough place to win at the moment. Guzan seemed to have had an excellent game and deserves a chance in the first team.

Stevo985 Posted October 27, 2009 VT Supporter Share Posted October 27, 2009 I'd let Guzan have his way with me, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it!
YLN
Good result. Didn't sound like much of a game. It seems we have somehow engineered a penalty saving robot and that can only be a good thing.
notoriousjim
Guuuzaaan! That's some record he has at saving penalties but sounds like it was a poor game. Still it's a cup competition, a win's a win and we're in the quarter finals, I'm delighted.
AVFC-Prideofbrum
I like Ian's facebook status: "who cares if we are boring at times, what we have with that defence is the ability to defend and get results" Add that to the fact we had Guzan in the sticks and yeah.. lmarsha_926
We are really solid at the back but we cant seem to get into full flow going forward. Another tough away game at Everton on Saturday despite them being in bad form. Who ever we face in the Quarters it is going to be tough. Hopefully we can get Portsmouth or any game at home. PompeyVillan
I'd let Guzan have his way with me, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it! This is almost as funny as 'Woooooo! My pants are down, I'm all yours Guzan'! My post match reaction: 'AHHHHHHHHH!'
HJ
Guzan 5 pens, saved 4 that's amazing and he made a couple of great ones in open play too according to commentators, played himself a start in the final if we ever get there. Great to hear that Ash put a few great crosses in too and scored the deciding pen, hope he's back just in time to torment Everton again.
andym
from listening on WM we were poor tonight, worked hard but created hardly anything. guzan and the defence (particulaly collins) kept sunderland out superbly in normal and extra time. we need to retain possesion and not just hit and hope all the time though. we have some very good players but the system/tactics/training whatever is not quite good enough at the moment. still, its always nice to win a shootout, and you would think it will give the whole side a boost. carew and young finally stepped it up to score crucial penalties. MOTM guzan by a mile. 4 penalty saves and some other excellent saves in normal time. he has won us the game
coda
Poor performance overall but brilliant result. Collins sounded unbeatable again and Guzan is The Man. Pompey in the draw on Saturday would be nice.
GasGasGas
4 penalties saved out of 5!!! Un-****-believeable!!! If we ever concede a penalty in the league we should sub Guzan on just to save it!!!
RichardCanning
Pleased to be through at the end of the season no-one cares whether you won the cup by progressing through every round on penalties they just care that you won the cup
rjshare
cant rate anyone or anything from listening to a radio commentary, but the noticeable points: guzan, say no more - although i cant believe he let that malbranque penalty in... ash put some decent balls in apparently - good to hear and maye the winning pen will give him a boost too as far as i am aware we didnt get a shot on target - in 2 hours of play! we are in the quarter finals, having scored one goal in the competition!
