Putting the hosts aside, I don't mind a winter world cup IF it's bid for that way.

The reason Qatar was such a farce was because the original bid had no mention or intention of moving it to the winter. The bid was made for a country where it was physically impossible to play football in the summer. It shoudl have been laughed off the table on that basis alone

Part of their bid at the time was that they were going to fly this flying saucer type thing over the stadia to create shade and block the sun. Also air condition the stadia.

All while being carbon neutral of course.

Edit: Here is an article about it - ROBOCLOUDS

Robo Cloud to Intercept Sun Over World Cup Qatar

Qatari scientists claim to have cracked the problem of shade for crowded stadiums during the 2022 World Cup: Artificial clouds. Really.

Australia has withdrawn their bid to host the 2034 WC so congratz Saudi Arabia and FIFA. They are now the only option. Bet that hasn't happened many times before.

Whoever saw that happening? Im shocked 😒

hardly a surprise.  Not as if there's much opposition or complaining going on, think of all the phenomenal soulless arsehole Geordie apologists. The lack of much fuss with Qatar, one crappy segment by the BBC at the beginning of the tournament and then we all shamefully cracked on and watched it anyway, deploying whatever workaround twist of logic to justify it.

I like the idea of using Euro 2028 as a blowout of engagement with football, one final home tournament and then done. Very unlikely to work like that.

Professional sport is just so **** shit and corrupt.

UEFA might be shit too but I'm still hoping for a complete UEFA/FIFA split where UEFA goes their own way. I can do without the monstrosity that FIFA have made the WC and without the Super League they are attempting to make with Saudi help.

Depressing but predictable, did anyone watch the boxing the other day? You really notice when there isn’t a rowdy crowd, the atmosphere was so dull nd boring compared to vegas or London etc….the process is so corrupt! Australia has done the sensible thing as it would have been a sham process with no hope of sucess

you could get a pint in qatar pre-world cup in certain places like hotels etc. they just relaxed the other places you could get one when the WC was on

saudi is a totally dry country though...will be interesting to see how many go if they don't change the law for that.
