Good to see that despite it being against fully grown and i  guess hulking centrehalves and aggressive midfielders 5'7 skinny Aiden Borland played the full 90. At 16 he is already training with the first team and seems one of the first names on the teamsheet. No rotation to avoid overloading him. He starts every game. When he gets his growth spurt he will be extremely formidable .

For my £5 last night I got 6 goals, one disallowed goal, woodwork twice rattled, a missed pen, a couple for meaty challenges, some handbags plus a penalty shootout. Money well spent and credit to Lye on the pricing.

In the first half we gave the ball away too many times and it wasn’t a surprise we found ourselves two down. Moore put us back in it from close range, so we trailed 1-2 at the break.

The second half was entertaining. They hit the post and then scored of a corner. You could throw a blanket over most of the players, as was their tactic for corners. Very dangerous from corner all night. Emery was lucky to stay on the park when he bundled over a forward when rushing out of his goal. We got a goal back when the ball fell nicely in the box for Wilson to score. Other reports this morning state Moore, but it looked like No. 15 to me. The equaliser was similar, a cross into box made its way to Moore to poke home. With time running out a pen was given after a surge into the box, Bogarde was felled. It was a nice height for the keeper to save down his right hand side. From the corner, a bar was hit following a scramble. The Lye right-back bizarrely pushed Jimoh following a tackle and they squared up to each other. Handbags followed involving all 20 outfield players plus our head coach. It was nice of the Lye coaching staff to remind the ref that our head coach had entered the playing field and should be booked! In the dying seconds it looked like we had won it but ball over the top was given offside.

So, onto the pens, most of ours were well taken. Moore decided to take an identical penalty and unsurprisingly it was saved again. A Note on Afoka’s pen, a fanny-dribble effort that took an age to roll into the net. It reminded me of a Bert Traore goal against the Abion.

Overall for us, Wilson made a difference when he came on at half-time and should have scored but lobbed over. Katsukunya looked calm on the ball, Borland is neat and tidy. Rowe was very good, up and down the right flank all night.

Team: Emery, T.Rowe, Munroe (sub: Wilson); Katsukunya, Bogarde, Borland, Young (sub: Afoka), Alcock, Moore, Jimoh, Patterson

Unused Subs: Lynch, Lewis, Pavey

Goals: Moore 31&79mins, Wilson 76mins

For record, the shootout:

0-1 Palmer - Scored

1-1 Bogarde - Scored

1-2 Funge - Scored

2-2 Wilson - Scored

2-3 Meacham - Scored

3-3 Alcock - Scored

3-4 Hall - Scored

3-4 Moore - Saved

3-4 Ngbeken - Saved

4-4 Afoka - Scored

4-4 Tye - Saved

5-4 Borland - Scored

Well there was always alot of talk around Rowe as  Chelsea bidding for him as he was the standout defender at 15/16.  Good to hear he is still pushing on now. When i have seen him he seems far more explosive than before probably as he is turning from boy to man . I see alot of maybe Kyle Walker in him. Loves to defend and then break at pace

With the glut of talent that we will inevitably and eventually see coming out of the U21 side, you'd wonder where we'll put them all.  Obviously we'll find room for the very special ones, and that in itself will justify what we do with the academy. That's its whole "raison detray" (©Del Trotter). We'll definitely be letting some very good players leave for far less than they're worth though. Simply because at the time they'll be unproven. I guess that's the nature of having a top academy. It overflows with gems and you can only accommodate very few. Especially if you yourself are competing at the sharp end of the league and have to buy your fair share of top talent from across the world. Ho hum. First world problems.

We need to make sure that when we sell academy stars they do flourish. 2 promoted clubs took a chance on Ramsey and Archer at really good prices for us  . They havent pulled trees up. Which will mean other clubs will be more afraid to spend big money on our next raft of talent.  We got Ramsey and Archer flying in the champ , Keinan Davis was an animal in the Championship and this season Jaden is one of the best players in the Champ.  But if we sell to the Champ its for 5 mill max due to finances  .

Anyway . We will find space for them. Of course we will. But as you say many many really talented players will be sold. Some that are that good we will be moaning and complaining. But the reality is that to get in our squad going forward you will have to be an incredible talent.

Theres some really good players in this years academy. By all accounts next years lot are just as good. And i think alot more will come from within rather than bought from outside.  Burgess Burrowes Lynskey Haywood Bindley Meade Cole Ramsey etc etc have a good chance of being offered scholarships.  Nearly all have been capped at international level.

It all bodes well and means that the cream can rise to the top, while the rest are cosched to such a high level that other teams fight for them to go to their clubs.

Its not just about first team players its about creating a pathway to professional football for as many players as possible. If we get more and more into the leagues, more and more parents will sign their children to Villa. And we will get better and better talents.

It's 3-0 at halftime, we've actually had more possession than them and more than twice as many shots at goal, but they've scored three of their four shots on target.

Strange game it seems if the stats are anything to by, we dominated possession, had nearly three times as many shots as them, twice as many shots on target, ten corners compared to their four, and many more attacks than them, but still lost 4-2, Wilson and Kellyman with our goals.

Jimoh, Kellyman, Afoka and Moore, going to be tough for Leicester to live with that front 4 tonight.

Its good that we are finally getting some taller and stronger players up front . I guess all 4 of them are 6ft 2 minimim ?
