I've seen: Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who (original lineup), Fleetwood Mac (post-Green, pre-Buckingham/Nicks), The Faces, Jeff Beck, Genesis (Gabriel era), Roy Wood (Wizzard), Eric Clapton, Lou Reed, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, REM, Springsteen, etc.

Never saw (but wish I had): The Beatles, Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, King Crimson, Led  Zeppelin.

Or I was there (working again), everyone thinks it was great, in fact the pinnacle of the band live but really it was shit

Maybe this is a more interesting thread.Great legendary gigs that were actually shite.I saw Bob Dylan and was seriously underwhelmed although he is famous for inconsistency.

When? Even as the resident VT Dylanista, I wouldn't bother with his recent (i.e. 21st Century) live style.

Blackbushe 1978 was something else, however.

Interesting ! Have seen The Who, original lineup, twice in B/ham; Jeff Beck about 30 years a go at the Odean in a pick up band with Mo Foster on bass, Tony Banks and the ace Simon Phillips on (TAMA) drums , Wizzard at the old Top Rank in Dale End (got in free 'cos the keyboard player is a mate.) Original Fleetwood Mac (Shake your Money Maker) at same venue but think Peter Green was with them - Jeremy Spencer was.   The one I thought you might have mentioned was Cream ! Would liked to have seen to have seen King Crimson (with Michael Giles).

Yes set list looks incredible but with Dylan changing the melody and lyrics is still no guarantee of greatness.

Was that the open air concert he did around this time?I have heard from other Dylan specialists that this was an amazing concert.

On behalf of my wife, I’d like to nominate BB King, at Cardiff St David’s Hall, July 1985.

The gig was a sell out, we were walking past and I said come on, let’s go in and ask, you never know. Went up to reception and asked if there were any spares or returns and to my surprise we were told ‘yes’. Yes, there was a single returned ticket.

Best gig my missus ever missed.

Yes. He wasn't pissing about with the melodies in those days. It was ace.

I saw Dylan a few years ago and he was terrible, I wasn't expecting much it was more just the case that I could say I've seen him live.

My old man saw Zeppelin a few times, I know he saw them at Mothers, pretty sure he saw King Crimson as well, not too sure about Hendrix but I think he might have missed him.

Halloween 2002, Leeds Met Uni, Fugazi. Although not their final ever show (that honour would go to a quartet of gigs at the start of November at the Forum in London), this was one of their very last.

So why this one? Well the idea of them donning Halloween masks for part of the set sounds like fun, but mostly of course, it's the set list. Fans will know that they never played the same set twice (OK, they probably did early on, but certainly never at the end of their time playing together), and it just happens that this one contains many of my personal favourites.

Years ago I bought the CD version of the show via the Live Series from Discord, and it's been out of print ever since.

I've listened to many, many of their gigs via the Live Series since then, and this one still stands out as my favourite (even if it is devoid of Guy or Ian bemoaning stage divers and / or moshers).

I was 16 at the time, had friends who could drive, and had been to a variety of gigs...although I hadn't even heard of Fugazi at the time (it was a couple of years later I would listen to Repeater for the first time), so although it's possible I could have attended, it's quite implausible.

Just this

Thanks for posting this.  I just watched the whole thing for the first time since the time it came out.   I saw them twice on the Speaking in Tongues tour, which the film is basically a condensed version of.  It was every bit as magical as it comes across in the film.  Impossible to stand still, and you could tell the band were having a blast.

A lot to envy in that list, and some overlap.  I would have loved to have seen Traffic, too, but was too young.

I was fortunate enough to see the Dead around 20 times.  Even though they weren’t always on, almost every show was special in some way because they never played the same set list twice.  I saw them on consecutive nights a couple of times and not one song repeated from one show to the next.

Specific shows I regret missing:  Violent Femmes in Seattle, around ‘85 (sold out and not a ticket to be found outside the venue at any price) and Elliott Smith in San Francisco ~2001.  I couldn’t convince a friend to go so figured I’d catch him next time.   There was no next time.
