Legend and icon are words thrown around nowadays on nobodies like someone pissing in the wind.

In this man's case, they hardly scratch the surface or do him justice.

We are about to lose an absolute behemoth of the game. A serious global figure who's name, face, persona transcends the sport and is known in parts of the world so remote. A truly unique icon who didn't need to cheat to win.

There'll never be another 😥

And that before, years before the age of Internet, even TV was fairly basic.

Imagine how stupendously huge he'd be if t'interweb was around in those days.

To become a global superstar was a really, really, really difficult thing to achieve.

Yep. Lineker suggested on the BBC that reports have been misinterpreted or exaggerated to some extent and that he's in a stable condition. Of course, with conflicting reports it's always hard to know which ones are closest to the truth, but this situation isn't as clear as it seemed earlier on today.

Pelé singlehandedly pulled the sport into the modern age and was responsible for its explosive growth outside its traditional boundaries.

Millions of American kids started playing because of how he exhibited the sport and projected its excitement. NASL was basically a vehicle for Pelé. It sucks that league didn't last. But MLS came along and some of those kids in the 70s went on to play in those early MLS years.

There were early soccer leagues in the US back in the teens and 20s and 30s. They died, sadly. But Pelé changed everything and set the stage for what we have now in the United States, which is a thriving domestic league and a dynamic young national team with a bright future.

It's all because of the impact of Pelé.

Brilliant. Huge Kudos to whoever put that together, and really puts him into perspective.

Whoever made that it must have taken a very long time, the side by sides for some of them are incredible.

I know. But remembering the Villa Park redevelopment thread a good number of people think it's inconceivable for 50,000 to attend matches at Villa Park.

It must have been incredible to see a player pulling off those moves in an era where it just wasn't part of the game.

That video was almost like watching a player from the modern day time travelling into the past to show the rest how to play.

Long way back to the shires on a cold night, like that with no available watering holes in town on the way mate.

Pele said he wanted to play at Stan Drews not Vile park and was tricked.

Little known fact, his dad was a shop steward at JLR after emigrating from Brazil snd season ticket holder at the Blues and mates with Jasper Carrot and Ken Wheldon who all had many great nights out in town, no vile

Spoiler

Mate
