January Transfer Window - 2023

McKennie has played in eleven of Juventus' fifteen league games this season and five of their six Champions League games, the one he missed he was injured, so I doubt he's nowhere near good enough for them.

Doesn't really matter though as apparently there's no concrete interest from us in him.

I do think we could do with another No.8 eventually though, as we're a bit light there as illustrated by us having to play Cash in midfield with McGinn and Ramsey out, just the two specialist options not really enough, even with Iroegbunam to come back we could sill do with another, it's not just about squad numbers either, ideally an upgrade on McGinn would be good.

Sure I read somewhere earlier that mentioned a Dendoncker / McKennie swop … or maybe I imagined it as now cannot the article

Aston Villa are ‘offering a lower salary’ to striker Jhon Duran than Benfica, with Liverpool now out of the picture.
t now seem there have been further developments, with Amato reporting that Villa are currently offering a lower salary than their main competitors Benfica.

He has Unai Emery’s side offering a salary of £800,000 while Benfica are at £1.1m.

Apparently he has turned us down as he wants to join a champions league team.

Bullet dodged far as I'm concerned. Not a good fit for Villa right now.

What we need is someone who can do what Ollie and Bailey can't -- finish. It's so obvious. It's been obvious for at least a year. I don't know how we can continually fail to bring in a finisher. I don't care if he's a keeper as long has he can finish.

As an American, I've seen quite a bit of him...  He is McGinn 2.0...  All action, jack of all trades, master of none.  That said, 15 million is a bargain.  Just the exposure/shirt sales alone he'll bring in the USA will be worth it.  If Emery is looking for another McGinn to rotate in and out of the team for him, this would be good business.

Considering McGinn is the first player most on here think isn't good enough for the squad, most of VT will hate McKennie after a few months.

I mostly agree, but always much more off-pitch or petty drama with McKennie. Nothing like McGinn in terms of personality, unless I missed some reports about McGinn. Just seems like it's always something with Weston ... can't really see that going down too well in Brum. I could go on.

5 days in and so far FPL lyric is spot on again.

Such a negative sally. Everyone knows, including Emery, that our players are not good enough to perform at the required level week after week. Changes are needed, and changes will happen.

Just to touch on NSWE’s backing on Emery. Yes, funds will be allocated to him in the winter and summer transfer windows, but don’t expect the crazy amount that has been spent in the last few years. NSWE expect that Emery can bring out the best of the players he currently has.

Dec 2, 2022

Villa forward update: Emery still working on buying a forward in January, that is the priority. However, price of forward will not exceed £30 million.

Dec 2, 2022

Marcus Thuram looks very probable for Aston Villa in January provided he chooses Villa over other interested clubs. Not definitive yet but there’s a high chance.

Dec 26, 2022

Emery admires and wanted to sign Fernández and Gakpo for Aston Villa, however their tremendous World Cup performances have elevated their price tag to an “unapproachable” level for Villa. Still, Villa top priority is a forward under/~£35M

Dec 30, 2022

Aston Villa will not make any permanent signings in the Jan window. Unlike previous windows, Villa are extremely low on funds. Expect MAJOR signings and revamp in all departments in the summer. Emery has been instructed to make use of current squad for now.

He covers almost every eventuality.

And as a non football related Brucey bonus

Don’t let the result change the fact that England is superior to France in every aspect of life.

He’s a little rocket polisher.

Durán would make a degree of sense as we don't have an academy centre-forward his age close the first team and with Archer going won't have a third choice striker, and given the transfer fees being talked about for someone who has only just turned nineteen I'm guessing there would be an expectation that he wouldn't be third choice for long.

Gents, if you'd like to start a topic in Off Topic to talk about a chap on Twitter, then by all means do do.

If the chap on Twitter posts a rumour about a transfer, then by all means post it here and comment on the link.

But posts in here talking about a chap from twitter and not Villa transfers in the January window are off topic and will be treated as such.

Thank you.

I really don’t think Emery would have taken the job at Villa to manage a sell to buy policy or little backing by the owners for the players he wants.

Gerrard wasn’t allowed to spend too much for a reason so I’m in no doubt Emery will be given the funds to buy whoever he wants and in the summer again.

I’d expect maybe one, if not two more effective midfielders to be signed plus a forward. FB positions may also be looked at with several players sold or pushed out on loan with a view to buy.

is it right that Moreno was going to join Forest for about 10-15m in the summer, but pulled out of the move as the fans begged him to stay?
