Great signing for Brentford, surprised at the price

Yep, would have been a good signing for us.

People say he wants to play first team and not back up to Digne/Cash..... in response I always think the player must not back themselves that much to unseat the existing first choice

Or they back themselves more than the team buying them…

“we want you”

“what for?”

“back up”

I can completely understand why a player would want as many games as possible at that age. There are plenty of examples of players development massively stalling by making a move a year or two earlier than they should have.

Competition for the spot is how it should be looked at, if you back yourself you think that spot will be yours anyway

Lad turned 20 last month and has played 81 games he actually needs to take it a bit easy or he will ruin his body as many have before him.

Hickey is so overrated.

I didn't get any of the £22m links for him for the player he appeared to be.

But I trust Brentford 100% and £15m feels fairer.

I think footballs changed, the aim for hickey now isn't to move to say us or to a CL team as the back up left back for £14m and spend 2 or 3 years trying to establish himself it's to move to Brentford for £14m play 38 games a year and then in 3 years time if he has established himself the same CL team or even us can buy him for £40m as the 1st choice LB without a care in the world

LB is a specialist position too, it's not one where its often rotated or subbed off with 30 mins left, same as Targett, it's not a competition at villa, Digne plays if he's fit

Tell that to Salah and Kevin De Bruyne.
over looked at Chelsea… and never got their spot. So they went to “lesser teams” and now they’re world class

Sensible from him if he wants to move league and play though.

He's not going to be getting in ahead of Digne or Cash for the start of the season....then if they start well, he's probably not getting in for 3-6 months.

Brentford played an out of position midfielder at wing back for most of the season. He's straight into their team.

Great move for him IMO.

That is a shame but I guess he would have never come here to be backup to Digne.

Brentford will surely play him as RWB unless they're selling Rico Henry.

He played there for Scotland v Ukraine but wasn't great.

When do we fly off to Aussie land? I know we have Walsall as first pre season match this time next week but I assume we fly out straight after?

You'd assume we'll step things up and sign someone else in next 10 days especially given pre seasons are starting now.
