This is a genuine question..

Is there a descriptive word/s  to describe the art of passing and moving the ball around, like we do.

In boxing its "Ring Craft"

Is there a description of a similar word.....would it be "Pitch Craft" or "Containment" or is there something else?

just interested to see views.

its a good point, Unai isnt moaning about tiredness. If he did id suggest he has opportunities to rotate players. If the strategy is to use a smaller core group and give them more minutes, then im all for that.

My main worry isnt about protecting player tiredness, its more about involving more players so that when they do play, they are all familiar with the system etc.

all true.

I also think, team spirit is also imperative, and this means keeping players happy with game time.....those players also have international commitments to balance too....and match fitness, is not the same as physical fitness.

Unai has a whole raft of factors to consider.

The top teams have traditionally, been in numerous competitions, they are geared to rotation and easier to implement....we are new to the party and just learning the ropes.

The players need to be patient, like we do, watching the games.

There's only about 17 players that will start more than 20 games if we stay in our remaining 3 competitions (League, FA, Conference). Outside of the XI that started yesterday - these are probably the other 6 or 7 people that will feature.

Tielemans
Bailey
Diego Carlos
Lenglet
JJ
Moreno
Duran

They will get most of their time in Conference/FA Cup/League rotation but you can probably expect 15-20 starts total out of this group.

The under 20 starts group will probably be:

Bert
Dendoncker
Chambers
Olsen
Kellyman
Iroegbunam

I don't think it's as complicated and really a huge need to 'rotate' outside of maybe two unhappy characters (Duran and Tielemans). But Tielemans has appeared in every match (14) and Bailey has made an appearance in all but two. Duran may not like it but Watkins is on fire and can easily start 45+ matches so the youngster will have to take his chances when he gets them.

The under 20 starts group will only be in case of emergency and we'll probably be in trouble if they are starting regularly.

id change starts for appearances and then id agree with you. I dont see Duran or Lenglet starting 20 games.

i think were also seeing the importance of the different European competitions in order to build the squad. If i compare us to Newcastle, theyve had to go straight into the Champions league and their group games are all against very strong sides. They dont get the luxury of playing a weakened side and they also have to deal with the come down of a mid week home games against PSG and then playing on a sat/sunday against a Luton or similar.

I think a season or two in the conference league, Europa league helps start to channel the thinking around having a squad thats capable, how best to rotate them, getting the players used to the tempo and gametime.

While id love champions league football at Villa, im not sure i want it before were ready.

I wonder what the value of our squad is now? About £700 million? Given the contract lengths of our more highly valued players.

TM valuations are a bit absurd. Wan Bissaka 5m at Palace then overnight 50m when signs for Manure. Grealish 15-35m seasons with us then 100m when signs for City. They're very post transfer reactive so pre transfer valuations just crap shoot. Pulling those figures out my arse but did monitor both players mentioned pre and post transfer and not too far away

Well yeah, so are all evaluations until a player gets sold. It's ballpark but as a comparison between clubs it's as good as any. Use the FIFA or Football Manager games if you like them better.

I don't understand how Newcastle's squad is considered more valuable than ours? There are only about four of their players I would want in our squad. Fewer as regular starters. We are better in just about every position, especially with our second eleven players. They have relied on mid table players being in excellent form, managed by a great manager, for the last two seasons. If they don't invest heavily in their squad soon I can see their bubble bursting.

Their squad is full of Champions League players while ours are Conference League players :D

Because a lot of their 'valuations' are very undercooked until there's an actual sale. We've had Martinez (28m valuation), McGinn (27m), Konsa (25m), Luiz (55m) etc around for a while now, where Newcastle have bought a lot in more recently (Botman, Isak, Bruno, Gordon), so proportionally we have more undervalued players than they have.
