sne
Guess we're in the endgame now in regards to Trump's attempted coup. Quote Trump says he will intervene in Texas election lawsuit President Trump on Wednesday suggested he will intervene in a case brought by the state of Texas against other states alleging election fraud in yet another last-gasp effort to subvert the outcome of the presidential election. "We will be INTERVENING in the Texas (plus many other states) case. This is the big one. Our Country needs a victory!" Trump tweeted. It was not immediately clear if Trump planned to intervene in his personal capacity or if his campaign would get involved. A campaign spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment "It's a publicity stunt masquerading as a lawsuit. AG Paxton should be sanctioned for it," tweeted Rick Hasen, a law and political science professor at the University of California, Irvine. "It goes against the will of millions of voters. He's going for a pardon with Trump." "It looks like we have a new leader in the 'craziest lawsuit filed to purportedly challenge the election' category," tweeted Steve Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas at Austin. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/529408-trump-says-he-will-intervene-in-texas-election-lawsuit
HanoiVillan
Not remotely surprised to be experiencing right-wing Americans launching a coup, but I am surprised by how *boring* it is.

sne
The Electoral College is currently casting their votes. Live on CNN ("Fake media") for those interested. Edit: Georgia just cast 16 votes for Biden. Cue meltdown. Edited December 14, 2020 by sne

blandy Posted December 18, 2020 Moderator Share Posted December 18, 2020 Quote Former Donald Trump adviser Michael Flynn has urged the president to use the military to force an election "rerun" in the swing states he lost to Joe Biden in November. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-news-live-biden-update-today-election-b1775971.html
villakram
A number of states have nominated an alternate slate of electors too, shenanigan are still afoot. Regarding Flynn's comment, I've seen it written that the state of emergency legislation for Covid is broad enough to give Trump much more room for legal maneuver than would normally be the case, up to and including actions as advocated by Flynn in a more extreme interpretation. Remember the torture memos!
HanoiVillan
Worth remembering that Flynn was originally an Obama appointee. I guess you wouldn't call him one of the more successful appointments.

sne
Quote Dominion plans to sue Sidney Powell, doesn't rule out Trump Dominion Voting Systems plans to sue attorney Sidney Powell "imminently" for defamation, and it's continuing to explore similar suits against President Trump and others, company founder and CEO John Poulos told the Axios Re:Cap podcast on Monday. Between the lines: Dominion, which makes the voting machines used in Georgia and elsewhere, has been the subject of baseless accusations of malfeasance during last November's elections. Trump, during his leaked call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, called the U.S.-based company "corrupt" and had to be corrected by Raffensperger after claiming machines had been recently removed and/or altered by Dominion employees. Dominion says that the rhetorical barrage has led to death threats against its employees, including one who remains unable to return to his home. https://www.axios.com/dominion-defamation-lawsuit-sidney-powell-trump-5e8530bc-a6ff-4feb-badd-d617eccdabfa.html Edited January 4, 2021 by sne
magnkarl
We all knew Trump wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but calling someone you have already angered (Raffensberger), asking him to "find" votes is just asinine. Did Trump think that it wasn't going to be recorded? It seems that the common denominator between anti-vaxxers, pandemic deniers, racists and tin-foil hat wearing idiots these days is this buffoon. The sooner we're rid of him the sooner the world can focus on other things than his temper tantrums. Edited January 5, 2021 by magnkarl

This morning on the radio I listened to the news as per usual, the last bit was Trump talking about Mike Pence saving him last night in Georgia. Right after BYOB by System of a Down came on. Hit the nail on the head, so to say. meregreen
There would be a delicious irony, if Georgia, one of the bastions of the Jim Crow era of the South, was to be the standard bearer for the fight for America’s soul. Please make it happen.
