Some were reportedly heading to Kherson in the last couple of days and the top General of the Ukraine armed forces was saying in mid-July that the middle of August was going to see a big change in the fighting

Russia's other "Friends" are unlikely to turn into War Allies.

India isn't going to oppose NATO military especially with Pakistan ready to take advantage.

Iran doesn't have much to offer without nukes. The same applies for North Korea.

Brazil just can't make a difference so far away from the conflict zone.

Syria's got its own problems.

The Chechens, Georgians and Belarusians might use the chance to resolve their own issues.

When Vietnam decare war on the US it will see "Born In The USA" back in the charts but not much else.

Small point, but having spent time in Vietnam, they are not likely to go to war with anyone, not least the US. The US may be obsessed with the Vietnam war, but the Vietnamese are much more future facing in my experience.

That was my point. Russia may have countries that will trade with it.  But it has no real military allies of any note.

Everyone watching on waiting for the nuclear disaster at Europea biggest nuclear power plant.

Do the G7 leaders have their “we should have acted sooner” speeches drafted up ready?

There is an interesting report from the Royal United Service Institute which is being widely publicised.

They have examined 27 of Russian's most advanced weapons which have been captured in Ukraine.  They have identified 450 separate electronic components purchased from Western Countries.   Its now a case of stopping Russian getting their hands on any more.

But there are 2 more interesting possibilities.  It may allow NATO to build electronic weapons to target those components.   But it may also allow NATO to supply those components via third parties and include "other things" within the electronic components.

The US never said they were not giving them long range rockets just they had an agreement with the Ukrainians that they wouldn't be using them to hit targets inside Russia.

Crimea is not technically part of Russia so diddums.

The best case scenario for Russia is that only a couple of planes were destroyed..  But there will be debris all over the runway that will need to be removed.  Some of it will be tiny and need people to remove it by hand.  That’s a lot of troops occupied for the next few hours or a few troops occupied for a long time.  Let’s hope it’s the later and the runways remain closed.

Surely they are going to attack the Kerch Bridge sometime soon? Must seem like an extremely juicy target for Ukraine.

Bridges are not easy to destroy.  Bridges are some of the strongest structures we build.  Think about when you see building demolished on TV.  That’s achieved by people carefully placing explosives in dozens of weak spots and carefully timing the explosions to go off in a pattern.

But Ukraine is slowly beating down the bridges defences.  Today’s attack on the nearby airbase will reduce air cover.  Striking ships in the Black Sea will reduce naval cover.  HIMARS will be targeting ground to air defences.

Regardless of whether it’s attacked or not.  It will use massive resources to protect it.

Russian Defence Ministry on the Crimean Airfield explosions:

Quote

"At about 15:20 on the territory of the Saky airfield near the village of Novofedorivka, several pieces of aircraft ammunition detonated in an enclosed storage area.

Measures are being taken to extinguish the fire and find out the causes of the explosion. According to the report from the site, there was no deliberate strike on the enclosed ammunition storage area at the airfield."

Is this the pre course for the newly arrived HIMARS rockets or likely an f16 with some medium range ammo? Hard to tell I guess. Either will damage anything within Ukrainian borders, Izium likely being the next target.

The anti radar missiles that hit around Kherson oblast showed that something big was afoot, and it sure wasn’t ammunition combusting for no reason.
