They’re clamping down on the fake gay boat immigrants, woke science, socialist pork tax, and all those sex pest blokes blagging their way on to maternity wards, so they’ve got my vote.

You can pretend all you like. We know you've only turned because of the scrapping of HS2 and the electrification of the Welsh Railways.

Those others are just nice to haves.

Coincidentally all the people that caused HS2 to be a failure.

The Welsh Transport Minister was on the tellybox yesterday. There’s been no consultation on this electrification thing, no planning of it, and it wasn’t on the list of the 5 things they’ve been asking for from Westminster. Neither the Welsh government or NetworkRail have been consulted. It wouldn’t equate to 30% compensation for the money taken from Welsh budgets to pay for HS2.

Somebody more cynical than me might suggest that speech was a load of old bollocks randomly thrown together the night before by people that didn’t have access to Chat GPT.

That was literally the rumour wasn’t it, on a couple of political chats. That they needed ‘something’, called up Dom and his plan was to just scattergun bollocks everywhere to distract everyone and see if anything actually proved popular.

Good old Rishi and his new way of doing politics, the slimey little shit.

A minor thing, but amusing nonetheless. Sunak's graphic design people have clearly done a stock image search for "UK students" to photoshop Sunak over.

And picked a bunch of students from the University of Kentucky.

edit - or it might actually be a real photo of him. Boo.

I was reading elsewhere they've not consulted all sorts people and organisations they should have.  And not been through various audit committees.

Bona fide proof they've no intention to build most of this stuff, but this is a blatant vote grab.

And as I said earlier with the Burnley politician, I'm sure it will buy some.  I've subsequently seen a Shropshire politician going on about how brilliant it will be as well.  These people are in the press being listened to.

I just hope these new rail plans don’t get in the way of the 40 new hospitals.

The smoking thing is odd.  I mean, I'm all for people stopping smoking but I wouldn't see it as a major vote winner.

Seems to be getting a lot of negative post.  Maybe a red herring so he can reverse it later saying see, I listen to the people?  Dunno. its a but weird.

The smoking thing is against lots of tory basic ideology.

It’s taking away some freedom of choice.

It’s against the small shop keeper and low level accountancy crime.

It will require i.d. to be carried by smokers for decades. Forty year olds will be given money by 39 year olds in alleyways alongside shops to go and get 20 Benson.

What will happen in the future when 35 year olds bring back the box of 200 cigarettes from Spain, will they be seized by customs?

Yes, potentially you can only buy them in person, or have them bought for you by someone older than yourself.

53 year olds at airports and corner shops ‘they’re for my mum, honest!’

No, we'll force the EU use our laws. They need us more than we need them. #brexit

It won't be illegal to own or to smoke cigarettes, it'll be illegal to sell them based on age. This puts the onus on shop owners and makes councils enforce it (Trading Standards) with no extra funding to pay for the enforcement.

It must be quite an ideological twister for a tory.

On the one hand, what could be more nanny state interfering with personal choice (meat tax anybody?).

On the other hand, their voters are old and this would deny something they have to younger people. Which as we know is incredibly appealing to them.

It’s the political equivalent of putting buttered toast on the top of a cat.

With a speed-limit of 30 mph what's the point of electrification?

The Vale of Rheidol Railway is superb!

So it seems £24bn of the previous HS2 Budget almost 2/3 of it is now being spent on roads instead.

There had better be a big of self examination from all the greens who objected to HS2 at every level, delaying it and adding costs.
