Birmingham has one, Nottingham does, Manchester does. They all suffer from the problems you describe - what's going to be happening on a national level though is attempting to address these educational and communication issues about what and where they are, and when to go to one instead of A&E (technically, urgent care is also A&E, they're just level 3/4 instead of a level 1 A&E) If the "Long Term Plan" comes to fruition, we'll see more urgent treatment centres, not fewer, because they lessen the load on level 1 A&E, and are cheaper to run (they may have a lot of the same staff, but A&E requires consultant supervision whereas UTC usually just have GPs). They turned one of our old hospitals chase farm into a "urgent care centre" for non life threatening emergencies and our Borough is huge yet we are supoose to only have only two a and es instead of three now. One of the a and es is absolutely atrocious so no one goes there, therfore everyone goes to the other. This obviously causes significant pressure on that one a and e. Its a **** joke. They spent a shit load of money recently doing chase farm up its lovely but it dies not do anything life threatening! Surely they should have re built a bloody a and e with the money They sold off parts of the hospital land and building a childrens school behind a mental health unit. The rest for flats. Popular Post markavfc40
You only have to watch any reasonably impartial news channel, or read any newspaper other than the extreme right wing rags obsessed with Meghan Markle, to know that the country is well and truly broken. The Tories are done for but it has come too late as they have destroyed so much of what was good. Banker loving, baby eating no longer even breaks the surface does it with these evil, heartless, self serving bastards. Genie
The crisis at the NHS is getting a lot of media exposure now but it isn’t new, and it didn’t just happen this week. The Tories have completely ran it into the ground over a number of years. It’s been impossible to see a GP for years. It’s been impossible to get an ambulance for years. It’s been a disaster at A&E years. I’m convinced a big part of the problem is the GP’s. They don’t want to work for whatever reason and it hasn’t been addressed. They hide behind the reception staff. People are then faced with 111 who tell everyone to go to A&E.

The average number of patients each GP is responsible for is now 2,270. In 2010, when the Tories came into power, it was 1567 patients per GP. There are obviously other issues which haven't been addressed, or worse still have been purposely exacerbated, most notably an ageing population which has coincided with the Tories decimating adult social care.

Lots of GPS have left the NHS because of the maximum lifetime pension allowance being set low enough to mean they don't benefit, pension wise , after a certain point, £1.1m . This seem alot but when DB pensions are took into account it's not. This has been reduced from £1.8m , under Tory rules and its now frozen. Not matter which was you look at it the NHS main threat is the Tory party and it's clueless and malicious stewardship.
chrisp65
In February 2020 this tory government promised an extra 6,000 doctors. There are now less doctors than there were in February 2020. BMA FTE / Headcount data Quote In February 2020, in a bid to reverse the stasis in GP workforce numbers, the Government announced a drive to recruit an additional 6,000 GPs… The liars and thieves collectively known as tories are a direct threat to your health.
foreveryoung
I'll say it again, the Government are to blame wholey for non investment in the NHS, but theres no doubt it's being run by absolute no marks who are paid to do a job they are not doing for their 6 figure salaries. I mean if your useless, who's gonna sack you? There's people paid to look after budgets, but they expect money just to come Pilling in with no thoughts of streamlining or cost saving. Cracks me up when there are directors, head of this department that department on TV moaning its never been this bad, when they are part of the problem!! That would have been the case in 2010 yet in 2010 you had to wait no more than 2 days for a non urgent GP appointment. The waiting time is now over 2 weeks. In 2010 there were 2.5 million people waiting for hospital treatment, in 2019 (pre covid) there were 4.6 million waiting. There are now over 7.2 million people waiting for hospital treatment. In 2010 only 1 in 25 patients spent more than 4 hours in A and E. In 2014 that had risen to 1 in 10 patients spending more than 4 hours, in 2018 it had risen to 1 in 5 patients. As things stand today 1 in every 2 patients spends more than 4 hours in A and E. Cancer patients waiting more than 62 days for treatment to start after an urgent referral stood at 13000 patients in 2010, in 2022 that had more than doubled to over 27k. You now wait around an hour for an ambulance if you have a heart attack or stroke. The target time is 18 minutes. The reason all the above, and more, has gone so badly wrong since 2010 isn't because of the no marks who look after the budgets. They existed long before 2010. What changed in 2010 is that we got a government hell bent on destroying the NHS and doing all they could to set it up fail. Bravo in fairness as they have achieved that goal and some. I hope the bastards who voted for them are hanging their heads in shame.

Genie
I still have to shake my head when the Tories blame people getting ill for breaking the health service. Coming soon: If people stopped committing crimes then the Police service would work well. If people stopped causing fires the fire service would be efficient.

sidcow Posted January 4, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted January 4, 2023 What the actual **** is this maths till 18 thing about? The whole country is going up in smoke. Every institution and service is floundering. People are destitute all over. We desperately need leadership and after sitting under a rock for 2 months he suddenly sticks his head a over the parapet and starts wittering on about maths till 18. What the hell is going on?
