The_Rev
It's pretty much what you would expect to see, especially the UKIP - Tory overlap everywhere except for Kensington and Chelsea where there is an awful lot of foreign money.

The_Rev
I wonder how an updated map would look almost six years on. Reddit and Facebook are positively tiny on this version!

AVFCforever1991
This world map shows the geography of disease; what is most likely to affect you based on where you live. Most of North America is covered in adipose tissue, as obesity-related illnesses affect over a third of the population. Europe and Russia show brain tissue to represent neurodegenerative disease. East Asia and the Pacific show pancreatic cells to represent their diabetes epidemic. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn23761-a-sick-world-in-gorgeous-closeup.html?cmpid=RSS|NSNS|2012-GLOBAL|health#.UcwcLz7wJvb

legov
Isn't diabetes linked to obesity? Yes but not exclusively. Yes, but America has a diabetes epidemic as well. Isn't Australia the fattest nation on earth now anyway?
BOF Posted June 27, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 27, 2013 America has diabetes largely because it's fat - so the fat is the underlying cause so that's what goes on the map. It must be a case (I don't know) that Asia has a diabetes epidemic for reasons other than obesity.
legov
America has diabetes largely because it's fat - so the fat is the underlying cause so that's what goes on the map. It must be a case (I don't know) that Asia has a diabetes epidemic for reasons other than obesity. Assuming both have the same BMI, an Asian is more likely to get diabetes than a white person. The same is true for other racial groups that are usually considered non-Caucasian. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19545697 http://aadi.joslin.org/content/asian/why-are-asians-higher-risk-diabetes Edited June 27, 2013 by legov

legov
This is the reason why the Health Board in Singapore recommends that people keep their BMI below 23 - instead of 25 which is the recommended guideline in America. (my BMI's above 23 )

legov
Anyone here likes to eat Chinese food? People talk about the impact of fast food, but at least McDonald's serves meat and vegetables with their fries. Chinese stir-fries (the cheap ones) are mostly refined carbohydrates stacked upon more refined carbohydrates that have been fried with copious amounts of salt and processed "vegetable" oil. Vile stuff.
