There is no way back for this chump

Agree. We look a mess. We have a top half squad and I believe another manager could get a tune out of them but we need to act fast as we are in real trouble as the rot will set in.

We are genuinely relegation candidates if we stick with this guy. With a top half squad. Go go go.

Body language of the players is awful -
Poor midfield selection getting overrun. Again. Konsa selected and at fault for a goal. Again. Dreadful defending from set pieces. Again. No discernable patterns of play. Again. I hope we magically turn into a better team second half but there is absolutely no reason to believe we will. Clueless manager.

Konsa is a joke -
We already had four CBs (without Hause) before Carlos got injured.

I fancy Palace unless we play better. To be fair you would think Buendia has earned a start which should help, and I'm hoping it's Chambers that comes in for Carlos. Draw would be a solid result, win and things would be looking up ahead of the West Ham game as I fancy us in that.

At this point he's lost me to be honest. I just can't switch my brain off to believe he knows what he's doing. That said, I can absolutely be won round on the basis of good decisions, good performances and good results. Just need to see them.

Chalobah could be a good option for us for sure

He had a good game and was integral in the win. If he can play like that every week he'll be OK and can hopefully win round a few of the doubters. Ramsay also had a decent game but I still think those two together leaves us too exposed in transition.

A high quality loan would for a CB would make sense if we can arrange it, but I can't see us splurging big dollar to take our squad CB count to 6. Chambers and Konsa should be able to cover in the meantime - Chambers deserves a go IMO. If we still have decent money to spend then strengthening the midfield remains the priority IMO - but we may need to sell first.

He played well against Man City which was actually only 2 games ago. Emi should 100% be starting ahead of him but Phil ain't all bad.
-
Massively unconvincing but 3 points closer to 40 I guess. Gerrard out.
-
He's a classy impact sub. Should not be starting. Did nothing again.

Tell me about it. It's shocking. Where's it come from?
-
All about McGinn that. Great tackle and long ball out to Ollie.

Fair enough. I think like many players he'd be doing better in a better system, but this isn't really the Digne thread, my point is that it's absurd to suggest the owners are pulling back. I've not seen anything to suggest that, they are just playing smart. Despite our current predicament, I am confident we are moving in the right direction long term.

I think he's a major upgrade on Targett - especially going forward where it is light and day. He's not as consistent as he might be but is comfortably good enough for us.

I think this is vastly unfair. We moved quickly to sign one of the most highly rated young players in his position (Kamara), a successful European regular CB (Carlos), a good value experienced AM (Coutinho), as well as solid, inexpensive back ups (Olsen and Augustinsson). That follows one of the league's best left backs in January (Digne) and a smart free transfer (Chambers). There is no issue with the recruitment, it's what we are doing with them. I'd love to see another top level CM too, and indeed a striker, but we can't do everything in one summer, especially when we have such a big squad already. This is as far as you can get from the Lerner years.

I think he will make some changes. It was such a poor result. Buendia for Coutinho, Luiz for Ramsey and Watkins for Ings. I think he might stick with Konsa, though he shouldn't We should look better for it. If he doesn't do that then he's even worse than I currently rate him, which is pretty lowly.

I've been quietly sceptical of Gerrard for a long time - but Saturday tipped me over the edge, both the result and the ongoing Mings mess that he keeps making worse. I just don't think the guy has any judgement or real ability as a manager, and is trading off his ability as a player (and I loved him as a player). To have the whole pre season and then put that shit out - not acceptable. Look - if we smash Everton and go on a run of course I can be won back round. I just don't believe it anymore and have no reason to offer the benefit of the doubt as I have been.

Well, I've had 3.5 years getting to know Tyrone Mings as a Villa player, and 1 getting to know Gerrard as a manager. Sure, I don't exactly know what has gone on here, but I have seen enough from both to form a view on it, and I know who I would prefer to keep at the club.
