  1. Will be a tough game but it's important for us to start well and we should have enough. Will say 2-1. I'd line up: Emi Cash Carlos Mings Digne Luiz Kamara Bailey Buendia Coutinho Ings I think Stevie will go: Emi Cash ? Carlos Digne Luiz Kamara McGinn Bailey Watkins Coutinho The question mark is who plays with King Carlos at the back. Could make a case for any of them. I think on balance it should be Mings shirt to lose - especially after having the captaincy taken away - but I think it might be Konsa given the Rennes line up.
  2. I think an elite striker will be next summer's big priority and the scouting team will be focusing on it throughout the season. We may get another midfielder in if we can shift a few out but really I think that will be it - and if Doug starts the season well and signs a new deal then even that may not be necessary.
  3. I think that's it. We need to clear a few out before we buy again IMO. There are no glaring holes in the squad, but there are opportunities to upgrade if we can free up some space.
  4. I wouldn't go that far - but I know what you mean. Whereas under Deano it felt right most of the time, and low and behold we kept improving, until that dreadful pre-season last year cost us big time.
  5. Yet another reason to doubt the manager's judgement unfortunately. There have been a few.
  6. It would be an option to play McGinn there too. I have a lot of time for Bertie but we don't really need him with the way we set up now.
  7. He can't even look at them unless they have a Liverpool kit on
  8. I agree I think this is really cool - traditional and different, modern but with a classic feel too - and cleverly done with the AV.
  9. This is nice in many ways - but not hugely distinct.
  10. It's quite shit IMO. So basic, looks cheap as anything. Not really a fan of Castore so far, prefer Kappa. The home kit is passable (but weirdly baggy) - but this is poor.
  11. I don't see why they wouldn't say despite. Watkins and Ings cost £60m and have overall been more good than not so it would be a surprise if we went big on a striker. Maybe there's a case for a third challenger if Archer goes out on loan but he looks ready to play a role to me.
  12. I'd be interested to see it tried but much as I love Emi some of his passing is quite loose and a lot of his play is risky. OK as a 10 but I think he'd give the ball away a lot in CM which would leave us exposed. I actually think Coutinho would be OK there if he battled a bit more (which Emi definitely does). Ultimately I don't see either of them starting too many games there really.
  13. 7th would be our best finish in 12 years and mark the upper echelons of what most people would have thought realistic two or three years ago. I'd be absolutely chuffed with 7th and it would be great fun getting there because it would mean winning plenty of games.
  14. This was definitely one of his better performances of the past couple of seasons. Agree that if he hit that level most weeks we wouldn't need to sign again. He's rarely shown that consistency but just maybe a regular run in his preferred position would help.
  15. I'm not sure Doug has actually been offered a new deal. We'll see. I'd rather he stayed and Sanson left but if we are confident we can upgrade in that position I think it would make a big difference. Could see it all happening later in the window though - I think Luiz will continue to play regularly in pre-season and if he starts the season well we might leave just try to re-sign him rather than going out to the market.
  16. Top 10 is minimum. 7th is possible if we sign another European quality CM. Don't think a striker is needed. Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham are examples of teams finishing in Europe without having strikers performing better than ours, and I just don't see who we would get. I can see that being a priority next summer. Ings and Watkins are both more than capable of scoring 15+, and I think Archer is going to be a really interesting option in this five subs world.
  17. Quite a funny interview pretending like like they haven't seen each other for months. Particularly enjoyed JJ asking AJ "so what would you say you've improved on since the under 8's?"
  18. Chuk is a beast physically at junior level. Those players don't always step up when that advantage is lessened. He's obviously a talent but he certainly hasn't stood out to me yet like Jack did. Then again neither did Ramsey. Que sera sera, I'd rather he stayed but if he doesn't fancy it it's really not worth being a distraction for any longer.
  19. We have a good battle on at CB now. I am sure signing Carlos as a right footed CB who is experienced playing left CB is to create strong competition for places there. It will almost certainly be Mings and Diego as the starting pair but Konsa could come in for either of them now and is good enough to keep people out if he hits the form of 20/21.
  20. Totally agree. I agreed with most of what Deano did here but was never really sure why Fred got so frozen out. Hopefully with a few more French speakers around too he is happy to settle and play a part in the squad.
  21. Agree that we need solidity in midfield to allow Buendia/Coutinho/Ramsey and the full backs to really play. The interest in Bissouma suggests management sees it too. Where have these links to Otavia even come from? We looked at our best with both Ings and Watkins together up front. The Christmas tree formation is a poor one for most games - I'd actually like us to try playing Coutinho or Buendia deeper in the three in certain games - but usually it will be one or the other with a more solid looking midfield behind.
  22. I bought last season's away shirt when it got discounted to £15 at the end of the season. It's decent quality and I fit it OK so no complaints at that price - I use it to play football and go to the gym. But generally no, football kits are ludicrously expensive.
