  1. I've generally thought he's looked tidy when he's played and he's been unlucky with injuries and management. That said, we are bloated with players who are decent but not great in central midfield. Luiz maybe stepping above that category now which is great to see, but McGinn, Dendonker, Nakamba and Sanson are still in it. We may also have young Tim to factor in next season too - adding another body there. I am happy with whatever Unai decides in relation to Sanson and indeed the rest of the 'OK' squad.
  2. Yes his best game so far for us IMO. A huge asset.
  3. The game management is superb. Two wins from those games is fantastic. What a hero.
  4. Decent first half from him, and great running for the pen. Nice to be able to say something good about his play.
  5. We have an 'original' badge at the moment. It's rubbish. I'd have loved a really cool, daring design - but we weren't offered one. The roundel is safe, classic, but it's definitely good.
  6. Almost feel sorry for him. Just not the player he once was. Maybe he can get it back somewhere but I think he needs a move at least as he's not good enough to play here anymore, which is a shame.
  7. He still seems fit enough to play a role so yeah, if he fancies it.
  8. Solid. It's a nice design. Slightly dull, but classic and a massive improvement on current one. Shame the other option presented wasn't better but there we go - right winner out of those two.
  9. I get the feeling he would only leave if he has achieved what he wants here. Which he says is a trophy and European football at a minimum - but who knows the true ceiling of this club under these owners.
  10. Sarr is good and probably attainable in January. That said, if we want to push for Europe next season I'd rather we keep our powder dry til the summer and get our real top targets in key positions. I would think we'll be looking at a striker and a winger at a minimum and we need to aim high if we want to press on. It's got to be quality over quantity at this stage.
  11. I do think Purslow would have been heavily involved with Gerrard's hire, and he was probably reluctant to move him on as quickly as he might have having risked sacking Dean in the way he did. However, I'm not going to hold one mistake against him - he's been a big part of a far more professional and impressive Aston Villa senior management approach than I've seen in 25 years supporting the club.
  12. Yes - having voted earlier there is additional info provided which confirms that the more detailed lion will still be used outside of the badge.
  13. I agree that's a notable improvement. Yellow one especially. That's not being offered though so I'll be going for the round one.
  14. I definitely do not. I'd have been up for something radical but it hasn't been offered. The roundel is nostalgic but tasteful. The shield just isn't very good. For those people saying the roundel looks like other badges, there are currently 5 round badges in the PL and 7 shields. Ignorant fans will think we are copying Chelsea with the roundel, but there we go. It looks a lot better IMO.
  15. I'd have been up for a radical design but I just don't like the first one. I really liked the AV one someone did. This one looks a lot like PES. Round one is v tasteful and will get my vote.
  16. I think he's saying people should be content with content demonstrating that Unai is content not providing content. That's how I understand it anyway.
  17. He is dreadfully out of form and I hope we sign an upgrade in the summer as it's a key position. That said, he suits counter attacking football much more than whatever dogs dinner we've been trying to play under Gerrard. He was genuinely good the first season under Smith (clearly Jack helped a lot too). I suspect we may see more counter attacking play under Emery so he still has his uses, flawed as his game is.
  18. He's hardly been that bad mate. His stats at Everton were very good. He's suffered with injuries here and like many not hit top form yet in a poor side. Everton fans were gutted to see him leave, calling it Agent Benitez and all that. I'm not worried about him at all, but we beed good back up if he's going to pick up all these injuries.
  19. Gerrard's transfer record isn't that bad. Digne's niggly fitness issues are annoying but he is a clear upgrade on Targett IMO, especially going forward. Like Cash, will look a lot better in a less ridiculous system. At 29, he's not young but hardly ancient. His back up is still going at 37. We probably overpaid by £5m or so but not a disaster. Coutinho has been poor but at £17m was not expensive. He shows magic at times, hopefully Emery can get a tune out of him. Kamara (22) on a free is outstanding business and by all accounts Gerrard was crucial. Jury remains out on Carlos due to injury but on paper he was an excellent signing at a decent price. Again, 29 is not too old, especially for a centre half. Olsen, Chambers, Dendoncker and the loans of Augustinsson and Bednarek are literally just to plug gaps in the squad. Hardly any money spent, and in that capacity they are fine. Our prior big money signings of Ings, Bailey and Buendia are the ones we desperately need to work if we want to catapult up the table. All have been good in moments without consistency. I am optimistic that Emery will make a big difference to this squad - even if it takes until next season to really see it properly.
  20. I don't think it's a bad appointment if Emery fails. He's literally the most credentialed manager we could have got. If it doesn't work, fine, but I won't blame Purslow. Obviously if Emery wants to make changes and Purslow doesn't support it etc etc then that's a different thing, but I don't there can be any criticism of NSWE or Purslow for making this hire (or for sacking Gerrard). It's not a Smith/Gerrard situation where the whole thing felt odd.
  21. This guy was our player of the season last year. Like many he's not hit his best form this season but maybe let's not write him off just yet?
  22. I like Pete. Find him very watchable, if not especially analytical. I do think a fiver a month is a big ask. I probably only watch one of his shows a month. I get a Sky entertainment pass om NowTV with all their channels and on demand shows for a fiver a month. Good luck to him but I can't justify it. If it was a pound I'd do it, and it would probably raise him more money overall.
