  1. Personal Pride should motivate you. Anger at being told you are finished when you think you are not. Trying to prove to them they are wrong. All he is doing is proving them right.
  2. Simples - Newcastle were not in such a mess as we were so took less time to turn it around.
  3. We had a horrible start under Taylor, same amount of points after 5 games and included a loss to the knuckle draggers. Won one then lost next so Taylor currently ahead. We had David Norton and Steve Sims in defense arrggh! Atkinson. We started off OK then got stuffed 4-0 by leeds in a TV Game. I also remember around Dec/ Jan we could bloody score. I was living in the states by then and getting updates via Sports Argus and Evening Mail reports being sent over. Just seemed to drift.
  4. FFS we need to build a team. So far we have bought the players and they need to play together. We had a big clearout and incoming of new players. If that is how they play when they are getting used to each other I cant wait until they start understanding where each other makes their runs etc. The Two clearouts I can remember is Taylor MK 1 and we started in much the same way, and under Atkinson and again we didnt look great until Feb March Time.
  5. Why isn't Steer at least on the Bench? He did ok for Huddlesfield last year. Better than Bunn, I never wanted to see him again in a Villa Shirt after the Notts County game last year.
  6. Yes but we do not yet have a better Team. It is a Team game in case you wondered.
  7. Keep the faith. As I have posted previously we had a shitty start last time we were in these parts but still managed to get promotion. We all thought Taylor was a miracle worker back then. Dr Tony has swept through Villa like a Tsunami and it is a more positive place than it has been for years. The waters need to settle and once we get going and used to winning again we should do well and at least make playoffs.
  8. Good Time to retire when you colleagues who you have worked with for years are also leaving. Also he may have decided that with the other two going, that it was best for the club he retired giving Steve Round a clear run.
  9. 1979 vs Ipswich Town ended 1-1. Still picture the goal in my head. Struck from outside the box. I was in the North Stand and was taken to the game by my Dad's cousin as my Dad had passed away a couple of years earlier.
  10. So you didnt disagree with the first bit
  11. Think he needs confidence and a team that actually has a plan and system, which we of course we lacked last season. He battered a Liverpool defense a couple of seasons back in the FA Cup.
  12. I was under the impression they resigned to force some pressure on Lerner to get the deal done as he was dithering and they could implement their own plans due to the confusion. I think King was quoted as saying the deal is good for Villa if it gets done. Words to that effect or I might have dreamt that bit though
  13. Agree with Trent, that you had some sympathy with him with all the changes at the club since ONeil left. He just doesnt seem to have found a place or role. But with what happened last season you would think he would be prepared to do what it takes to get back to the club he loves.
  14. Bunn is a lot worse, play Steer if we drop him
  15. Yeah but Bozzie had Barret, McGrath, Teale and Stauton in front of him, he would have been exposed so much. I have never liked Bunn, he gave me kittens against Notts County last year but Steer did well at this level with Huddersfield last season and can be a decent enough backup. Steer was also very highly rated.
  16. Be Glad when the drama around this Fella is gone. Tony Daley ran fast as well and provided more of an end product. The Last Two Seasons he has been involved in relegated teams.
  17. I think we may be okay for FFP due to us receiving the parachute payments for Relegation from the Premier League. In two years time if still in this league we will be in trouble as we lose that income.
  18. I was trying to remember back to the last time we were at this level 87-88 because I sort of remember a shitty start under Graham Taylor. Taylor had inherited a similar situation with a Villa squad with low morale and bought in players to do a ob at that level, Steve Sims, Kevin Gage, David Hunt and Mark Lillis are names I remember. Dug out my Villa Complete Record to see how it really went: Well after 5 games we had the same amount of points as we do now: 5 Ipswich 1-1, Blues 0-2, Hull 1-2, Man City 1-1, Leicester 2-0 We followed that by Boro 0-1, Barnsley 0-0 before beating West Brom 2-0 We finished 2nd but the skin of our teeth mind but we did it. I expect a similar up and down season. At the moment I am not concerned. New Team and management team need to bed in and click.
  19. There was a fella at some club who made his debut at 19 and became the first choice. The Team Real Madrid, the player Iker Casillas Fernández We have no-one better at the club. It is one mistake he made plenty of saves before that. What should have happened is we should have scored more when on top so that one mistake didn't cost us points
  20. And Me looks like we have two Center Backs who will stand Tall - Elphick and Chester, saying that Baker does as well just accident and injury prone
  21. Yer Man at the Baggies has said that he was vitally important in them staying up when he was manager
  22. lol yes I can accept that correction
  23. Add to the Ayew he spoke to his dad the great Abedi Pele who told him how great a Club Villa was. We need to start promoting how great this club is. Before my time but I was given the match programmes from the era when we went down to the 3rd (League 1 to youngsters) Villa was at its lowest. But the club worked on promoting itself again as a great club. The fans were told we will rise again, the club is moving in the right direction. The trip to the 1971 League Cup Final was the sonic boom that pushed Villa to glory in 1981 and 1982. Along the way Pele playing at Villa Park, winning promotion in style from Div 3 with packed crowds. 2 League Cup wins, our first adventure in Europe (Van Gal played in the Antwerp team that beat us), hosting Barcelona with Johan Cruyff and going close to beating them. Whopping Liverpool 5-1 (Half time Score) the season they first came The Champions of Europe, also thumping Arsenal and one other team I can't remember by the similar shorelines. Playing attractive all out attacking football with Little, Gray and Deehan ripping defensives apart, the rapid counter attacking by the boys of 81/82 in the European Cup. THE NAME of ASTON VILLA was in the News and it was mostly positive. Along came Ellis and he talked of budgets, cost cutting, he cut corners and didn't really promote the club. Big Ron did that. Lerner along with O'Neil, Acorns etc was again positive we were seen in a good light and started good players. Then the crash. Talks of cost cutting surviving etc. Yes we are in bad ways but we are ASTON VILLLA and lets us Rejoice in the fact we choose this great club to be OUR club. phew get off the podium now - Im sure some oldies can add more to the glory of Villa as I was born when we were winning Div 3 but as said I was given a big bulk of 70s programmes and read them cover to cover. They were great years and if you want more read the book Children of the Revolution by Richard Whitehead.
  24. No I heard them and never wanted him near the club in the first place. He showed at Luton he has no leadership qualities at all.
  25. Tell Wednesday we are sorry and they can have Micah Richards instead as a form of apology
