  1. Didn't that team just get bogged down with games. Won League Cup but had loads of replays including QPR and of course 3 games against Everton fro the Final. Also Quarter final of Cup where they lost to Ipswich. I was only 5 but I was given the programmes from that season which I read everyone cover to cover!
  2. Didn't Barton take over at quarter final stages? Ron guided us past Valor and Dynamo Berlin. Barton Role I think previously was to identify the talent for Villa to buy. A lot like Taylor did for Clough.
  3. Is Johnstone able to catch a ball? Only saw the highlights of the wigan game but the save from the freekick surely he could have caught that rather than punching the ball away. Always a danger it goes to one of their players. Im sure Jimmy Rimmer would have caught it
  4. I think his contract is up at the end of the season.
  5. Im sure that was the sort of Deal Villa had back in 80-82. I remember reading an article where Dennis Mortimer was defending the bonus system just before we won the league. It also made players desperate to be part of the first team and stay there to get the win bonus
  6. Im sure Lambert said he didnt have a problem with him. The Bomb squad was a decree issued from above. Hutton during this time never slagged the club off and instead of sitting on his arse looked for loan moves elsewhere to keep playing. I dont mind him staying but hopefully Bree will develop into a much better player.
  7. Description of goal on Radio 5 was that he was rooted to the spot
  8. Graham Taylor on the A-Z of players book. The Original that had a photocopied version was delayed in post so they sent another that he actually signed. Johnny Dixon, Alan Deakin who were playing for the Old Boys, signed above Book. Leslie Smith (Winger from 40s) also signed same book as he was watching the match. Friends Dad said come with me as he knew his son. Remember Leslie's son saying sign it like a Cheque Dad. McGrath Signed Autobiography my sister got me. Menu from end of Season do for 1981 signed by all players. Amazed I was given this but bloke marrying girl next door was told to clear out his Villa collection and I happened to be lucky kid next door. Alan Evans on back of Kinsgbury Aquarians (Swimming Club) AGM schedule. His kids swam so a bloke who knew me from City of Brum Swimming got me his autograph and said that Allen said he would try to score for me that weekend. It was Didier Siz debut and we beat Man U 3-0 with Allen scoring penalty at End. THAT IS SO MY GOAL! Brian Little and Tony Dorigo when the Youth Team visited and opened Chasetown new pitch. I actually went back to Dorigo who was a Youth Team player and asked who are you! Andy Gray on his book at his Book Launch. Also got Big Ron and David OLeary that night. Think I have Birch and Keown as well.
  9. Im sure under the last few months of Lambert (after he visited Pep at Bayern) Villa used to have the higher percentage of possession during the games. Problem was we did feck all with it and kept losing, hence Lambert lost his job. So Derby having most of the ball means nothing they still lost and we won.
  10. I do not see the issue in taking a look at him. He might just be able to do a job for us over next 3 months. Put him on Pay as you Play and see what happens. Just cause he is on a trial doesnt mean he will actually play BUT he was a good defender as people have said and if being part of training he can pass things on that will help. Im not a Bruce fan but beating him with a stick for this is madness, I like the fact he is open to try any option rather than being closed minded about things. Our current coach Colin Calderwood came in as an emergency to cover when Ugo had that eye injury and a defence fell apart. He wasnt the greatest and at end of his career but he did a job. Ronnie Johnson helped us for a season.
  11. Hang on he made a few saves doesnt make him acceptable. The chaos in our defense has coincided with Johnstone Arriving in Goal. He doesnt command the Goal Area or command/direct his defense. He needs to be dropped before we drop
  12. Err yeah I also had Garry Thompson in my head but I dont think Gary was that old when he signed for us, not sure where the Caldwell came from. Brain fart moment
  13. Andy Lochhead Peter Withe (29/30 when he signed I think) Gary Caldwell (Replaced Ugo for half a season) Steve Staunton (When we bought him back) Gordon Cowans (See Steve) Steve Simms Mark Lillis
  14. I know a lot of fans would kick up but I would welcome Lambert back. He seems to have been refreshed since leaving us.
  15. Easy to figure out why we are losing. Having a keeper who is allergic to making saves. Most games even in complete domination you usually allow a few shots. If nearly all of them as at the moment result in a goal then that will affect the rest of the team and how we play. Our strength by the players we ave and we have bought is attacking but we are battoning down the hatches cause of the lump of turd in goal. We dont have the players to play that sort of game.
  16. If this was Jed Steer I wouldnt be so angry as at least he was our player, Johnstone isnt so bloody drop him who cares about his confidence etc. The Defence is fragile as they have no confidence with the man behind them. A defence will play confidently if they know that if a shot gets through it probably be saved, our defence plays thinking oh shit we cant let a shot through. The Best Villa Teams had a good confident goalie behind them - Jimmy Rimmer, Spink, Bosnich, Friedal. Defense becomes confident and solid and that allows the midfielders to play knowing they have a solid back up and onwards to the forwards, who can play with freedom. I have said previously I do not like or rate Bunn, He gave me panic attacks against Notts County last year which I think was his debut but he needs to come in. Johnstone may be a good goalie but he isnt ready for what we need and we need it now.
  17. Could we have an accident in training and break his arm, then use the emergency loan cover to bring a proper Goalie in. Guzan is sitting on his arse dong nothing.
  18. I think Bunn is awful and have kittens when he is in the side but I rather him in goal right now
  19. I dont care about Johnstones potential or hwo he will improve with age. We have him on loan, we need good now. Pointless bringing him in instead of Gollini unless Gollini was kicking off about losing an Italian Goalkeeper coach.
  20. Villa Transfers‏@avfctransfers1 Following More Right I was told an hour ago Scott Hogan medical at 4pm - provisional slot - not fully confirmed yet.....
  21. End of Lamberts first season he looked like he was developing into a good payer. Like the rest of that team apart from say Delph none of the really kicked on. Even Tekkers wasn't as good as he was back then. Our Managers have not been able to develop him so hopefully that happens at Burnley. As others has said he never disrespected the club even in the barrage of abuse. Good Luck Ashley
  22. I only named them as I was trying to think of players who didn't really play under Taylor. But Yes he shook the club up. Brought in at first old heads to help stabilise like Simms, Norton and Lillis. As the season went on started to shape his new team with Stuart Gray, Andy Gray (MK II) and Platt. Was it the pre-season after we were promoted where Aspinall kicked out while on tour in Scotland? Taylor had him straight out the door no messing.
  23. Who were the hound dogs back then? Steve Hunt? Andy Blair?
  24. Dean Smith the Brentford Manager would also sell Villa to him over the baggies
  25. Last Time down here in these parts of the football pyramid we also nicked a midfielder off Barnsley called Stuart Gray. Helped us get promoted and became our Captain.
