The three first teamers from last week don't make starting line up tonight

I would drop the beast but can't see it happening. Then again watching motd last night showed southampton struggling to contain 442, but surely that will be looked at in their training. I actually think it will be the same starting line up as Saturday. Away from home this is normally affective, but we need CB to up his game, as without him holding up the ball the counter attack won't work

First twenty minutes Sunderland were absolutely bricking it and were there for the taking. Unfortunately we stopped pushing and allowed Sunderland to gain in confidence. Can't break a team down, never looked like scoring. Awful turgid performance. Benteke had his worst game by far in a villa shirt and should've been taken off earlier.

This should be a fairly easier game but knowing villa we'll find a way to make it hard. I think we'll go: Guzan Bacuna. Vlaar. Clark. Luna Delph. Westwood. Kea . Gabby Kozak Benteke Be looking for gabby to run both channels (even though probably will stay more left. With the fullbacks to offer more width

Looked like he helped out benteke and that they enjoyed playing together. Thought nzog would play best if he was in andi's position and not in midfield. But then andi was playing decent last yr.

Libor looked better, but I still don't think we'll see him at his best until we are putting better balls into the box

HH you have made some interesting points. But I would have to disagree about us being too narrow being "absolute bollocks". On the left Tonev and Clark did offer some width and outlet for the team, but down the right if Bacuna couldn't get forward we had nothing there. There were numerous times when both Benteke and Westwood (probably others as well) had the ball 40 odd yards from goal looked right for a pass but no one was there so they had to check back and either go through the congested middle or go back. In my eyes we needed a wider player there to give the attack more balance. This happened when Andi and Gabby came on.

Thought once we were two down he grew into the game and made some vital tackles on long. Only criticism is maybe he should have taken responsibility for long straight away. As Albion were playing one striker and him being the senior defender he maybe could've marked long which ever side he went, which probably would've stopped the first goal (which whilst been an excellent goal baker should've been tighter)

Haven't read the match thread but I can imagine what people were saying and too be honest couldn't blame them. Football is an emotive sport and after a shocking first half performance people's emotions will be high. For me PL got the tactics wrong first half. Nothing to do with gabby, Delph or andi as wasn't expecting them to play. The team were far far too narrow, when you have two strikers who are competitive at heading at goal you need to deliver the ball into them. Albion are also weak defensively at full back (especially at lb) and this needed to be exploited. Yes bacuna had a poor display, but we still could've done with a rm there. Credit where it's due for pl making 3 subs and changing impetus of game to get a result.

Can't give anyone of ours a motm. First half was truely awful, w should've been buried. Better second and whilst substitutions individually didn't make a difference the shape unsettled Albion. Fair result in the end

Have the accounts from lamberts tenure been released? Surely the accounts from April would have been from the previous financial yr?

Really nervous about tonight. Not sure how it will go. And to make matters worse my new local is going to be full of Albion fans and my villa mates can't come out..
