  1. I had this in my head re: Doug all day yesterday (I went with the other option). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCYaALgW80c (I clearly don't know how to post videos)
  2. My word nobody knows if him having a baby is affecting anything. You guys do make leaps. Is Watkins the first footballer to have a baby, or do we just like joining up random dots?
  3. It's so weird this concept of people learning different languages! Why presume that the Brazilians can't speak Spanish, especially as they have all played in Spain? The thing I find fascinating is that Diego Carlos was speaking in Spanish in his welcome interview at Bodymoor. It makes no sense (unless we're lacking access to Portuguese translators). I like listening to foreigners to Spain speaking in Spanish as it's 100x easier to understand them. But that's one clue anyway I guess—Diego Carlos has perfect Spanish.
  4. We disagree with each other. It doesn't mean anything I know and it's still just my subjective interpretation against yours but I've watched him really closely (I'm sure we all have to be fair!). I'm from around Exeter/Newton Abbot and I love seeing someone from Devon in our team. I believe I saw all the same flaws both seasons. He has his limitations, but his level is still decent and upgrading is not going to be easy.
  5. Last season was a mess for a lot of reasons. Losing Jack was a tragedy in terms of our year on year progress. We lost pretty much the only—well, definitely the best—source for our strikers and their scoring opportunities. I feel that Watkins has been pretty consistently the same in both seasons. I'd say he's been bang on identical. The same variety of touches was there in his first season as last season. The same inconsistent finishing was there. And on the plus side, the same hard work was there. The same hassling of defenders and athleticism. The same ability to get some goals. I think he's taking on a lot of the blame for our bad transfer window last summer. And our fans and fans in general have a habit of jumping on little details and blowing them out of proportion and igoring context. He's a good prem striker and to get better we either have to be insanely lucky and find the level of gem that rarely comes off, or we have to spend serious money and compete with some of the best teams in Europe to a signing.
  6. I've seen some really bad first touches from a lot of great strikers in the league. Watkins' touch isn't exclusively bad. Sometimes it's bad and sometimes it isn't—he has plenty of instances of good first touches. For me, I just think people jump on the negative instances way too much and I think people often ignore the good. You see it with other players too—they do one bad thing and then that's what they get judged on. I think it's unrealistic. Is his touch outstanding? I'm not saying that either. He's not an £80million striker, but he's a good Premier League striker.
  7. The key phrase I think you're missing is 'at Premier League level'. I think Watkins gets unfair stick. His control isn't bad at all, he has a bit of pace and in the last few seasons he's scored 14 and 11 goals—he fulfills all your criteria. Control up front when leading the line against Premier League standard teams isn't easy. Every time he gets the ball he's being hassled and people are on him. Getting the next level of striker I'd imagine is really difficult seeing as every team struggles to get one, and plenty of them spend crazy money trying/doing so.
  8. I thought they both looked pretty great tbh. They're very different, but they've pulled off different genres well so far.
  9. Oh my word, I was so enthusiastic about the pre-season the year we got relegated!
  10. People losing their heads after a pre-season game is tedious.
  11. To be fair he never played like that last season. Obviously the Everton game was good, but it was more three moments—this was a whole quality half. He looks like a different player to the rest of the games he played for us. I was wondering if he wasn't going to do it here, but he looked impressive today.
  12. Luiz is definitely in our best three midfielders. And respect to Bailey! He's looked great in just a few minutes.
  13. The weather and pitch is shocking and neither team should be playing in it.
  14. So far the Man U TV commentator has called Coutinho Ollie Watkins (for the penalty shout) and Ramsey (tackle just now), and he kept on saying Watkins/Ramsey even after multiple replays. He's definitely watching the replays because he just commented on one.
  15. I thought it was Neil Critchley.
  16. I'm not sure about having the same coloured shorts as seen in some of the pictures and the online shop.
  17. Positive BBC moment: https://bbcrewind.co.uk/ I'm not sure how new this is, but it's a huge collection of easily-searchable archive videos from the BBC. I love it.
  18. So he either plays for one of the best teams in the world or...Granada? That was such a random leap—a relegated yo-yo team? I'm sure there are other more in between options. But you'd imagine a lot of the really big teams will indeed be after him after starring in the Euro win.
  19. Doubts over his future makes them worse somehow? The window isn't done for anyone, so it's a bit difficult to make these calls surely. There are a lot of good teams in the Prem. They'll still make purchases/replace players.
  20. I think the first thirty minutes were the worst bit of that film. It was so rushed and stupid. It definitely gets better. It's definitely not great though.
