  1. We’ve played the fewest matches in the league, and have two matches in hand over 6 of the 12 clubs below us. Little more comfortable to think about when you take GP into account. edit: and on the flip side, if things go our way tomorrow we could be in a CL spot

Yes I admittedly don’t know much about the NBA at all, but after a quick search it looks like 2022 is their only year without a first round pick currently.

I’m not a big NBA fan (the Timberwolves always suck), but 3 first round picks is a LOT in the NBA. They’re essentially mortgaging their future for the hope of “winning now.” Shows me that Edens isn’t afraid of being bold to try and win. Although it’s a little easier to do when being bad doesn’t result in relegation.

Another massive difference is that the NFL/NBA/NHL all have a salary cap. Which means each team only has a certain amount of money to spend on player salary per year. It essentially prevents (from what I gather - didn’t follow the Prem back then) a team like Sir Alex’s United from buying an all-star team and dominating. Similar to what Man City seemingly keep trying to do now. The goal is to prevent competitive unbalance between teams based on their owners’ wealth.
  5. Oh my, WBA’s third kit is atrocious. Remind me of...
  6. Shame. When you play a team who presses and tries to stifle their opponent, the answer is quick ball movement and movement away from the ball to provide options. Neither of those two happened tonight and we were suffocated far too often. Leeds very good on the counter. Pretty much everyone poor tonight outside of Cash, but Mings stood out to me in a negative way.
  7. Most of the time it works, defenders give him respect and space to avoid getting beat. When teams press him and force a move he needs to get rid of it quicker, but it’s also on the rest of the team to move off the ball and give him options instead of standing there and watching him.
  8. Anyone got an update on the length of grass at VP tonight?
  9. Yeah but what if Man U get hammered for 3 years straight in this league? All of those plastic fans might dry up and move on if they’re bottom or thereabouts multiple years in a row. At that point you’d have alienated your local fanbase and your global one. Seems like a risky move to me.
  10. Thought Leicester did a good job neutralizing him out of the match. Scoring a hat trick against Liverpool will draw your attention to yourself tactically. Good news for us is that Jack, SJM, Trez, and Ross are all also capable of scoring. It’s a bit of a “pick your poison” situation for opposing defenses.

Hilarious. You get one f*** up per match in my book, and he made the most of his.
  12. That was an underrated assist yesterday. The way he used his body to shield the ball from the defender was textbook.
  13. As the rest of the world becomes more aware of his talent, his role will change. Instead of waltzing his way through defenses every minute of the match, he’s going to continue to draw more and more attention from opposing defenses. That’ll open up holes on other areas of the pitch and it’s up to other players to exploit that.
  14. 2 AM here while I’m posting this, and the next two days I’m off work, so I’ve had a few pints. But this will never stop bothering the hell out of me. American soccer needs to try and be it’s own brand instead of copycatting European football. Internacional Miami? Please. Beckham formed the club two years ago and to my knowledge they’ve never played a match outside the US.
  15. **** that. Unless you’re counting games already played last season.
  16. College Gameday coming back to Minneapolis. GO GOPHERS!!! .
  17. Isn’t that quote on the front of the Holte End’s top tier? It’s a great saying.
  18. A post in another thread sparked a question I’ve always wondered and never asked: what does a season ticket to VP cost? I assume it depends on the seat you’re looking to buy.
  19. It’s an unsustainable arms race that has been exposed by COVID, no doubt. However, if a business has a choice between paying more than they can afford to hopefully be competitive in their market, or being prudent and risk sinking in their market, any business is going to spend and hope that the worst case doesn’t happen. Unfortunately, the worst case has arrived. As far as your Aston Martin comparison, it’s not the same thing. You’d be making an investment in your personal life. These clubs are making an investment in their business. A better comparison would be if you were an independent professional race car driver. Everyone else is buying Ferraris, and you have the choice to be prudent and race with your VW Polo or overspend and buy a Ferrari. You’re gunna buy the Ferrari and hope you didn’t buy one with a bad engine. The problem isn’t the individual clubs not being prudent, it’s the market in which they are forced to operate to be competitive.
  20. Not much help with the comparison, I didn’t have one from last year. I will say that it’s holding up very well so far, I wear it around my apartment when it’s chilly. Washed it a few times (always inside out), and have had no peeling issues or anything else.
