    Other teams revelling in your demise can be looked on as a form of compliment in my opinion. It shows that you’re relevant. The bigger they are, the harder they fall and all that. We took the piss out of Newcastle big style when we sent them down - would we have reserved the same treatment for, say, Southampton? Fans of other teams taking the piss is part and parcel of football. Personally, I have no real axe to grind with Everton and reading their forum, there’s an air of resignation around the club like there was with us in our dark times. I’d far rather reserve my energy for the hatred of multiple other teams (Sky 6, SHA etc) before them.

    To be fair he’s rarely let us down - he’s a good solid left-back. It’s only this bizarre notion that his weekly salary is more than the GDP of a China that’s held against him.

    You make a fair point, and yet, just a few months ago when we played Newcastle at Villa Park the opposite was true - we bullied them and were first to pretty much everything that day. It’s baffling how things change from game to game.

    He’s in incredible shape and for someone his age hasn’t played a huge amount of games in his career. I’m holding out hope that he comes back from this. But the last few days couldn’t have been more shit, with the injuries to him and Buendia

    I’m surprised that some posters don’t rate Emi and don’t think he’d be a regular starter for us this season. Even when he’s not totally on his game he’s an all action, in-your-face terrier of a player, who must be a horrible little shit of a player to play against. His effort and work rate are immense. He brings so much to the team and in my opinion will be a massive loss. We’re better placed now than we have been for years to manage with the loss of such a key player, but it’s still a huge blow and for me too, it has put a dampener on my pre-season optimism.
