  1. Not the worst shout but he just joined Celtic. I think CB has to be a priority, and I think it’s under-appreciated by the club. Imagine Mings, who’s injury prone enough as it is, breaks his leg during the first match. We’d be left with Konsa and Engels as our best two centre-halves
  2. Lads, resale values are built into transfer fees. Callum Wilson would cost a lot more than £20 million if he were five years younger. Buying on resale value is like playing the stock market.

    Sergio Romero

The lad has 100 caps for Argentina. We spent more money on Marvelous Nakamba but posters here are complaining about spending £8m on him. Mental.
  4. Ten more points (45 total) would have landed us in 13th the last two seasons, and pushing 10th the season before that. We’ll start the season one of the favourites to go down - and for good reason. We need to be a bit more realistic I think.
  5. It’s a strange one if you’re used to American sports, MNVillan. I was organising the shirt numbers for a US-based hurling team once. Had to tell one of the lads, who turned out to be a very solid midfielder, that the Number 1 jersey is usually reserved for the keeper
  6. 100m + reported 70m for Grealish = 170m. Matty Cash 15m, Emi Martinez 15m, Ollie Watkins 25m, Said Benrahma 25m, Odsonne Edouard 40m Leaving another 50m for someone in midfield. Could be worse?
  7. ...don’t you remember what we’ve been through the past ten years?
  8. I don't want to be harsh here, but are you really saying a summer where we sign every single one of Watkins, Edouard, Rashica, Benrahma, Swift, Cash, and Butland would be "a total failure" just because we didn't sign Rico Henry as well? Come on @thunderball, get a grip pal. Less of the hyperbole?
  9. I don’t think the reports are true, but for £25m I’d definitely sell the lad.
  10. Shocking misuse of language. "Reign in expectations" makes no sense. It should be "rein in", like how you control a horse, not how you act like a king.

    Recruitment

"Huge statement of intent" is becoming the new "cheeky bid".
  12. Jack should have gone and started a fight with a policeman in Greece. Showed the world that he has a bit about him. That'd get him in this squad.
  13. The Torygraph is reporting that we're in for Trippier: Wouldn't trust that newspaper on Brexit, but on football rumours? Might be something in this.
  14. The Express link above also notes the break-down of trade talks with Japan: Global Britain.
  15. And Jesus Pitarch just left the club, don't know what @rodders0223 is on about!
  16. This thread just made me Google "what's noncing" on a work computer.

    Keinan Davis

He’s not a kid. Keinan is older than Douglas Luiz. Douglas has played for Brazil. Keinan is not much younger (two years) than Jack Grealish, who was starring in an FA Cup semi-final five years ago. We need to get past sentimentality.
  18. Dunno, I think it depends on his age?
  19. Anyone seen the rumours about James McCarthy? Reported in the Daily Mail, costing about six million. Very similar in quality to Conor Hourihane, but a bit more like Glen Whelan. Not an amazing addition, but would be a substantial improvement on Lansbury imho.
  20. I know everyone says this, but’s what’s the evidence for it? Not being silly, can you back it up?

    Keinan Davis

Clearly has something about him and needs time to find his scoring boots. But he has had chances and not taken them. We can’t afford to give him much time. No problem with him as an option, no problem with him going on loan, but this is a PL club not a evangelical youth group. Unless he starts scoring he should be off.

    Defence

Remarkable improvement, and credit where it’s due to Dean and JT for the change. Against Arsenal and West Ham you could really see the difference. Not just better from Konsa and Mings but the full-backs getting out and making crosses harder, helped by the wingers getting back, and the likes of Hourihane busting a lung to close down centrally. It was crucial to us staying up. (Still reckon we can improve on our centre backs, mind.)
