  1. First trip to Villa Park of the season for me, really looking forward to it. Will be interesting to see how busy the trains are with all the local football on. Ideally would love a comfortable win by three goals, but happy as long as we win with no injuries. Looking forward to seeing one of, if not all three of Traore, Gil and Grealish feature at some point. Would love Ayew to get a goal or two as well.
  2. Yep. I was fully expecting him to be substituted, certainly by the hour mark at the latest. The only reason I can imagine in keeping him on was that despite the total lack of final product, he was at least finding himself in good positions to ultimately not deliver. Perhaps sherwood felt that should another chance arise, it would have been taken. Gabby should not be starting against Notts County, give some time to Ayew instead, get him further up to speed.
  3. Not sure if it's been asked and answered elsewhere, but have Gil & Grealish played together before (youth match aside)? With those two, Amavi's crossing, Westwood's keen eye for a through ball and Traore doing his best impression of Billy Whizz, we surely have enough creativity for one of Ayew, Gestede or Sinclair to find the net on a semi-regular basis. Perhaps not Gabby.
  4. Yep agree, I thought he had a decent game.
  5. That Embolo link a while back came to nothing. Was there any real interest?
  6. Yeah I have to agree. If his performance yesterday is considered ineffective or below par, then I guess he's never going to win some of us on here. If continues to play like that, he'll be one of the first names on the team sheet.
  7. Along with Sanchez, I thought Westwood was our best player yesterday. Pretty sure he was involved in one bit of great defending for us and his passing was excellent. I agree regarding the corners though, grealish or gil maybe?
  8. I love both Godfather I & II, however Goodfellas wins it for me. Maybe it's the more earthy tone and the based on a true story aspect that make it stand out. All the cast are great and the voiceover by Liotta is perfect and adds a real rhythm to the film (strangely, when Scorsese tried the same trick with De Niro & Pesci in Casino, I found it jarring). The Goodfellas soundtrack is stunning too.
  9. Is the England job still that appealing? I'm sure the prestige of the job is still there and plenty of managers would love the opportunity. But at the same time I can't help but feel Sherwood (and probably a few other managers) would miss the regular work at club level. I can picture Sherwood getting restless at only being in charge for a few games every other month.
  10. Yeah the secret footballer did write an article suggesting that. It goes without saying that members on ready to go greeted it with careful consideration, tinged with good humour.
  11. The positive attitude of Amavi has been a real bonus. Before he signed there seemed to be a suggestion he was reluctant to join so it's pleasing to see his enthusiasm. A genuine quality player who appears happy at the club can only be a benefit when attracting players of a similar calibre.
  12. They've not been the same since they sold that Traore fella.
  13. It's ok, we lost to a team we regularly lose to via a deflected goal (a team assembled for an amount that makes our recent spending spree look penny pinching in comparison). A team that finished 13 places higher than us last season. Although not exactly a vintage display, we weren't embarrassed either. We were without what I suspect will turn out to be our three most creative players (Grealish, Gil & Traore) and who I suspect will be our top scorer unable to start (Gestede). Add to that this team is going to take time to gel, the outlook is positive.
  14. ^ Apart from I assume you mean Traore yet to figure, rather than Amavi.
  15. Yep I'm hoping that was a one off. Despite our general rubbishness over the years I've always considered us a relatively fair team. Hopefully just a bit of frustration.
  16. I'm doing a charity run on Saturday with three man utd fans. Please win Villa. Or at the very least please don't go two nil up only to lose again.
  17. Welcome Adama!!! Slightly risky move on barca's part though, selling to a potential rival.
  18. Ha! That does ring a very faint bell! Collymore got a hatrick in the return leg, I think. Which reminds me, the home leg against athletico Madrid is one of those games which could have been included in this thread for me. But it doesn't so it shouldn't.
  19. That was my first game too, so it's always going to be near the top of my list. I'm wondering whether, if given the chance, I would choose to be 10 or 15 years older so I could have been alive and old enough to have seen & appreciate Rotterdam! On the flip side, the subsequent fall would have been bloody hard.
  20. For sheer spectacle, has anyone said 6-4 against Blackburn? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ffJlnQlQgd0
  21. How are people pronouncing his first name? Adam-a or A-dah-ma? Just so I get it right either when cheering him on or lamenting it should we miss out.
