  1. I'm still bitter about the Falklands war and that word-removed-ish goal in the 1986 World Cup so I have no love for anything Argentinian (I even boycott their corned beef). That said, I would pay good money to see this guy play football - even if I had to actually go to Leicester to see it.
  2. Yep - a Redknapp signing of the highest order with all the smoke, mirrors and bungs (allegedly) all around...
  3. You can quote me - I'd like to set fire to Kay Burley and Steve Dixon in one big wicker man homage pyre of petrol and dry twine. Smug, judgemental journalistic twattery. I quite like Lorna Dunkley though... I'd quite happily take her out for a carvery meal and pay top dollar for good wine and finished off with the finest vanilla cheesecake. I'd even pay for her taxi home. Lovely woman.
  4. Bienvenue a Villa Aly... Oue est votre chapeux de 'tin?'
  5. The bells are ringing... Flaming alarm bells...
  6. +1 Lex - we're all just making up the numbers now, cannon fodder...
  7. Preki (Pedrag) Radosavijevic? He played for Everton didn't he? Pretty sure he played in the game at Villa Park during 1992/93 when remarkably (for late 20th Century football) there were 2 Australian goalies on show in the same English Premier League game for the first time (Messrs Bosnich and Kearton - whatever happened to him?). Anyway - surely Preki wasn't American - not with a name like that?
  8. I'm with Richard, but I'm plumping for 18th... and a very long way back. It may get even worse... (or it may not).
  9. LOL at the Nick Clegg of Villa Talk. Optimism is about 4/10 right now - we still have a shot at the League Cup and FA Cup... I have a feeling it's going to turn nasty quite quickly at VP if we don't get off to a flier. The buzz at the end of last season with regards to the club being for sale has totally disspitated as we've heard nothing concrete at all as to how things are going. Never been so 'meh' about the start of a football season. My advice to Paul Lambert - make sure you have lube with you at all times.
  10. Okay - animals that appear genetically similar e.g. a cow and a horse. A cow does a flat, sloppy pooh (a cow pat). A horse does nice, chunky dollops of solid pooh (manure) that is good for your garden. Take then, two very genetically different animales e.g a rabbit and a sheep. They both shit solid little pellets. Why the discombobulus difference/similarity in poohs? Why do humans have solid (one wipe and away) pooh one day, and the next day it takes an hour to wipe off? Riddle me that... as they say in Nantwich.
  11. That's sexist that is. Edit - better put a smiley or something in here to show I'm not a word removed... So... Are you talking about supposed professional footballers, or casual 'down the park, jumpers for goalposts, big dick complex football?'
  12. What about that song from the animated film, 'Frozen?' "Do you wanna play for England?"
  13. I've see this and it baffles me. Why would Vlaar go to Southampton? A club who have just rolled over and received fees to shat out all of their best players to Liverpool and mostly likely giving sloppy seconds to Spuds now too? Dutch manager looking to poach Dutch talent in easy journalism shocker. Edit - sorry, just read the tail end of the Vlaar. If he goes, he goes, sod it. Club have been in much worse states over the years and things will all work out well in the end... <riiiiiigggghhht, sigh> Can't really recall us being linked with anything better than Senderos as a replacement, so maybe that was it?
  14. Its not just the line. It sterilises land about 20 meters each side of the track too True dat - got to keep all the trespassers safe you know. In terms of the takeover, I wonder where we are all at on the 'bereavement curve.' I'm currently at 'acceptance' and just waiting for it to happen. My nerves about the forthcoming season are all that keeps my fingernails short.
  15. It's good, but it's not right... Now, here's a fifty pounder.
  16. Villa4europe - the cinematics for the Old Republic game (do you still play?) are fantastic and if we can't get to the stage where we have a genuine live action series, then that style of animation is a very close second for me. The Clone Wars series - the proper one, not the first iteration attempt of it is quite punchy, given that it is a number of short stories put together in chunks that fill the very big gap in story action between the films Episode 2 and 3. Some of the tales are quite interesting too - some good exploration of the Grievous character, Assaj Ventriss, and even Boba Fett pops up to explore a little more of his background. I haven't seen them all - still need to watch the entire final season, but it's finding the time for it! Still too busy playing The Old Republic on my PC. For me, the SW Universe is so big that bounty hunters could have their own long running film saga... The Fetts, Mandalorians, Dengar (the bandaged man with the longest gun in SW history), 4-LOM etc. Episode 7 - better start saving for the action figures and vehicle merchandise!
  17. i want them to do a big budget live action TV series on the old republic, HBO style production levels I think there is a lot of mileage there... It's so long before Ep4 that the world is their oyster really with that. I thought we were going to get a live action series of some sort, but we got the Clone Wars cartoons instead - the 2nd iteration of them are okay (the first was far too manga and quirky in style). the CW toons were okay, but live action really floats my boat and I think would be able to run and run. +1 for a TV series!
  18. I'm new to the BF franchise with BF4 so have not experienced any of the other versions. What has really impressed me in the on line game is how dynamic the maps are - by that, I mean that buildings collapse and you are at risk of being killed by your environment just as easily as you are by an opponent. I've played maps on China Rising, Dragons Teeth and Second Assault, along with the default maps - some good variety in there. Even Flood Zone has continuously rising water and there's even that map where a tropical storm builds during the match. Enjoying my experiences so far.
  19. Yes, there is irony there indeed and I have clicked like on something similar - more as a sign of solidarity obviously than actually 'enjoying' their news. It's almost as if Facebook is crying out for a 'hug' button. Maybe I should patent that before any other words removed actually get in there first.
  20. Can we discuss the spin off films as well in this thread? If so, it would be good to see them go back in time and look at the Old Republic, set roughly 3000 years before A New Hope. Stories following the adventures of Revan would make for a good series as he changes from Jedi, to Darth and back again. It looks as though we'll get a story about Yoda as a spin off, which is a fine start. As for Episode 7, I was kind of expecting it to follow one of the Kasden books and actually feature the good vs evil aspect by charting the development of Solo's children. The spoiler announcement earlier in this thread seems to pooh-pooh that though, along with the revelation that the EU is no longer in play. Looking back to 1977, A New Hope was a very good quality family film, and so the following two films were too (Episode 5 dipping into slightly darker/mysterious themes). Episodes 1, 2 and 3 are essentially good family films too (the Pod Race is great, the Bounty Hunter street chase through Coruscant is great, the battle for Geonosis is fine, the rescue of Chancellor Palpatine and the Mustafar climax fight are great) - but as we have grown up with the original Star Wars, we kind of expect our more adult tastes to be catered for, but that won't happen, and so it shouldn't. It's about telling family friendly stories and I think Disney will do a great job of that. If fans can accept Star Wars as being a family centric franchise, then all will be good. That all said - Lucas for me, left far too much story and action for Episode 3 alone. Story telling and character development are obviously key to the ongoing success of the series. I agree with earlier opinion that messrs Maul, Grievous and Dooku got far too little screen time to develop or explore their background. There's a whole story there to be told for each of those. Instead, we wasted so much time in Episode 1 with nothing more than a trade dispute between the Naboo and the Japanese (Neimoidians), a pod race and some floppy eared simpleton making a tit of himself up and down a battlefield rolling big balls of purple paint at a phenomenally inept droid army. But I digress, it was a kids film, and it delivered in that respect. And in Episode 1, I love Qui Gon Jin - he's actually quite dark for a Jedi e.g. using the force to get what he wants and cheating at a game of dice to that effect. I have high hopes for JJ Abrams - although imo 'Lost' was a myopic prick tease that went on for 4 series too long, the Star Trek films have been really good so far. Whatever happens, it will feel great hearing that music at the start of another cinematic adventure. I can't wait. He has a captive audience and fan base. Even if the film bombs, we know we'll be back for more. It's Star Wars - and that's all there is. Depending on how serious you follow Star Wars (lore, EU or whatever), I am hopeful that Boba Fett will get the opportunity to return (he survived the Sarlacc Pit) and maybe more from Darth Maul, who didn't actually die in Episode 1. Whether they feature in the spin offs or the new series, who knows. -- I wonder if the 'new' ice planet in Ep 7 will be Ilum... or maybe Belsavis (the partially icy prison planet explored in the Old Republic).
  21. At work, taking a bottle of milk out of the fridge for use in my tea - seeing the that it is 4 days in date, taking the time to sniff the bottle to double check and find that it smells okay. But discovering that upon pouring the milk into the tea, it instantly turns to cheese :-( No intent here to start a pre/post lactarian debate.
  22. I have decided that I despise 'spawn killers.' Those people that have the knack of killing you within 2 seconds of spawning. Getting shot through a wall is pretty depressing too.
  23. The amazing difficulty I have with trying to open supermarket plastic bags... (Yeah, I know, I should use a 'bag for life' etc, but plastic bags make an ideal bag to use again for household waste-baskets).
  24. Aston Vanilla - always getting licked.
  25. +1 for this, and for the Samuel article. Combined, I sense the PL and UEFA FFP rules heralding the advancement of a dedicated European Superleague - something I first became aware of back when the Premier League first started. In 1992/93, we probably would have been included in that. Twenty plus years later, clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City have really stolen a march. Chelsea FFS.
