  1. In fairness, Bournemouth would be able to offer more money than all but one team in France and I really can't see Veretout getting an offer from PSG just yet.
  2. I thought the website crashed for less than two hours, yet the extension is two days. In regard to the desire to include as many voters as possible, why wasn't the original deadline set to the latest possible date to administer the registration of voters? It clearly wasn't as they were able to extend it.
  3. What about those who still don't manage to register before midnight tonight? Will the 'deadline' be extended again?
  4. Betting odds are still significantly in favour of remaining in the EU and yet of around 50 relatives, friends and work colleagues I have discussed it with in the last couple of months, only one has said they were considering a remain vote. That's either a statistical freak or voting intentions are strongly linked to geographical area and/or ethnicity and/or social standing that I don't encounter. I wonder why the betting odds are so skewed towards remain, despite evenly split opinion polls. Are they assuming the majority of the current 'don't know' people will vote in large numbers for the status quo?
  5. Lerner had around that kind of money before his divorce. In effect his disposable income went from the tens of millions to millions, i.e. not enough to continue investment in a large football club.
  6. I'm off to buy shares in chairs.

    Carles Gil

Strange that his agent has apparently said Gil doesn't want to play in the Championship yet Gil was part of the squad that did everything to ensure they would be playing in the Championship.
  8. Since 'Remy' was appointed, I'm sure the Mods won't mind if we help the OS with a bit of 'copy and paste'.
  9. Well that's disappointing. You should choose your mates more carefully.
  10. After triple checking the correct spelling, I think our new Assistant Manager deserves his own thread. Steve Clarke should be a good appointment and has the right experience. Only time and VT opinions will tell. Currently, Clarke's appointment is pure speculation, even though the BBC states otherwise, thus - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36435484
  11. The unknown amounts of which may determine whether an out vote is worthwhile.
  12. Idea for the leave campaign - 1) Take a dingy over to the coastal area adjacent to Calais and offer it as easy access to the UK. 2) Ensure said dingy doesn't have quite enough fuel to return all the way to Kent. 3) Post on social media about a dingy full of immigrants spotted in trouble near the coast of Kent. 4) Repeat steps 1 to 3 twice weekly, up until and including the morning of 23rd June.
  13. I have the left floor tile in my bathroom and the right floor tile in my en suite.
  14. I have just renewed my 3 season tickets. I'm convinced it's cheaper than wandering around Merry Hell/the Bull Ring/a garden centre/a DIY shop and healthier than the pub. The occasional win should make it more enjoyable too, although I might be hoping for too much there. Over to you Doctor X...
  15. The halves are indeed 40 minutes, although from the games I have seen, there are less delays and less 'fannying around' than in the PL so the actual amount of football is similar, if not the quality.
  16. Having won all of their games, I believe England had to lose by 8 or 9 goals to not qualify for the final. It's no wonder why the game I watched lacked any excitement. The England players, including Jack, we're saving themselves for the final.
  17. I agree with the posts on this page. Whilst the all important football matters were beyond his control, he certainly had an impact on the 'soft' side of the club. For example, 22 years ago my now wife contacted the club to ask if they would arrange a little something as a wedding present for me who had supported the club as a season ticket holder for years - perhaps a card signed by a few of the players. The clubs' response was very disappointing - pretty much a shrug of the shoulders. In contrast, 9 years ago I messaged Krulak to ask if the club could arrange a little something for the 10th birthday of my son who had been a season ticket holder for a few years. Krulak spoke to Lee Preece who contacted me to arrange it for my family to have an 'access all areas' tour of Villa Park on the match day which was also my son's birthday. We met players, said hello to Doug, went pitch side, had some drinks and got given plenty of goodies. Krulak also made sure my son was looked after on a tour of BMH. He was there for public relations which was terrible in the 80's and 90's and improved dramatically under Lerner. Unfortunately when the football went sour, PR seemed a pointless and bad thing and Krulak got stick which was was way over the top, even given the daft things like the 'typo' mistake.
  18. You need to live somewhere where people have something better to do than sit in a dentist's waiting room for more than 45 minutes before their appointment!
  19. Definitely a Villa fan as she already has too many teeth to be a nose!
  20. That surprises me. I hope Jack thinks of it as the chance of a fresh start where he can knuckle down to some hard work and go on to help the team he supports to promotion. I really hope Jack doesn't think why should he change his ways when he's still being considered for U21 international duty.
  21. We need a manager capable of instilling desire and effort amongst the players and a manager with experience of promoting a team from the Championship. Pearson does tick both boxes.
  22. Indeed, but the US didn't feel the need to change the number of pounds to a stone or the number of inches to a foot so I'm still curious as to why the US decided to use the same size of fluid ounce but not the same pint, i.e. 16 in lieu of 20 fluid ounces. My time at school spanned a decade or so of moving from mostly imperial to mostly metric use including a fair amount of conversion education, so I am fortunate to be very comfortable with imperial and metric systems. For obvious reasons the metric system is easier, although my dad insists the imperial system made sense, whilst my kids have no concept of the imperial system other than miles. Despite the comparative ease of the metric system, I note the imperial system is still used in modern day Britain; my 18 year old son is becoming familiar with the volume of 20 fluid ounces. It will be a while before we'll be asking for 568 millilitres of ale.
  23. It appears that the differences stem from one thing - America's insistence that there should be 16 fluid ounces in a pint instead of 20, making their pints, cups (2 per pint) and gallons (8 of their pints), 20% smaller than the UK equivalents. Does anyone know why the UK has 20 fluid ounces for their next unit of volume, i.e. a pint, but only 16 ounces for their next unit of weight, i.e. a pound? At least the US has some form of uniformity of 16 fluid ounces/ounces for their pint and pound.
