  1. I watched it, he came on for the final 30 minutes, maybe slightly less. Played in an advanced role, looked keen to get on the ball but had little impact for me. Would give it a good few weeks for him to break into the side and learn about his team mates. I'm hoping to get next weekend and hopefully he'll start.
  2. Odd post after another clean sheet. Thought he was excellent today. He has his faults, when he have a better player it will be a great sign. I think a better centre half is costing 50m though
  3. I think that may also be true. duff said he was out with covid, rumours he's out for a while injured also. The only definite I heard was covid.
  4. Thought he played really well and was unlucky to be taken off. At the time I thought it should have been Ramsey.
  5. I don't know how long it's been there but it was good to see the club open some outside bars on the corner of the north stand and trinity road. Finally a place you can mix and socialise while putting money into the club. Somehow they need to expand this to really maximise on pre game socialising. Having visiting the new spurs stadium, it's something they do better than anyone else.
  6. Cheltenham are built around short term contracts and the loan system. They have the lowest spend in league 1 so are very reliant on relationships with the likes of villa. They also have a manager that really knows the value of these young players. In my experience so far (and I'm slightly biased), if this doesn't work out if will be a million miles away from the Ipswich situation.
  7. I'll get my scouting hat back on, I usually make 10 or so Cheltenham games a year, will feed back. The team is quite direct but setup well to allow midfielders to shine where they have quality. Will certainly increase his physicality and if he's good enough he will get lots of game time.
  8. yep, i also think it gives Gerrard more chance to gel the team. Get 3 or 4 in now, gives them a really long pre season for next year
  9. I think the world has changed. If you now have the value of a big club and a big name, you can really do something. Dean Smith can't signed Coutinho, similarly Steven Gerrard can't sign him if he's managing a lesser club than ours.
  10. Welcome to villa, what a signing. If you want to be in the top 6, you need to buy top 6 quality players. He is undoubtedly one of them. If you are not currently in the top 6 you have to take a bit more risk. That's what we are doing here. If coutinho doesn't have a year injured, then he's not coming to villa im afraid.
  11. How do you think he'd fit with Buendia? They strike me as similar. I think it would be a massive statement if we could get him, I worry like many others that he will become another ageing top talent who has lost the ability to fight. Another con for your list, he won't have played in a team like ours where the average level of ability is lower than he is used to. (Not a dig, we are not Barca, Bayern, Liverpool, Brazil)
  12. Its a bit of an assumption that Dougie will be happier because we've signed another Brazilian. Plenty of English people I don't like.
  13. I think to sell now would be terrible timing. He's so key to our identity and to lose him quickly after losing Grealish doesn't send great signals to be honest. Bids will soon circle for Martinez, we will be established as a club open to selling to others.
  14. That chasm is 5 points on average. I'm not sure that qualifies as giant.
  15. Makes sense, he's not playing, United surely want him somewhere he is getting minutes. Similar position to us in that respect.
  16. I think they have everything to do with the mistakes that all centre halves make. How many times do we see a centre half out of position because of an advancing full back. Part of the game now, Ming's makes the same mistakes as other centre halves for me. I'd love it if he didn't.
  17. I do think this context is important though. Defending has changed, full backs are now wingers who spend half a game attacking. Centre halves are now expected to start attacks and pass the ball amongst themselves. Both of those factors contribute to the large amount of mistakes we see nearly all central defenders making these days. We all see the mistakes by Mings, I'm not sure who villa can replace him with that improves us though. I look across the club's around and above us and I don't see better.
  18. I think he has the best relationship with Cash of any of our wide players. Traore loves to come inside, Cash loves to overlap which creates that option. Would love to see him and Bailey flying at defences.
  19. Interesting to read tonight's comments as I saw this as one of our worst performances under Gerrard. I thought we challenged in the first half but didn't really create anything. Second half I though Chelsea showed their class, switching to a back 4 nullified Watkins (who had the better of Chalobah) and Lukakus presence seemed to make us play really deep. Once Chelsea got the goal I thought they were comfortable and thought we were unlikely to score. Positives were the midfield and Traore getting back and looking his threatening self.
  20. I read that you didn't have to if you had completed for the Burnley game, but I can't find where I read it anywhere now.
  21. You have to pre register your covid status with villa. You should have had an email about it, they came out before the Burnley game.
  22. I read it somewhere but agree, it wasn't clear so had to go looking, I'll try and find a link.
  23. If you already completed it for the Burnley game, you don't need to again. You only have to do it once.
  24. If this game goes ahead (which is looking likely) then I'm very confused about why Burnley was called off. We're lead to believe we had a number of late positive cases, how are those people now available?
