  1. There isn't an era of Rugby I've been alive in where that would have been remotely acceptable and the games has cleaned iself up an awful lot since the 70s EDIT: And yes, when you consider what Paul RInger got sent off for at Twickenham in 1980 and then was banned subsequently for 8 games, the punishment these days seems too lenient
  2. I had no reaction at all either
  3. No, thats not what I'm saying at all, I'm saying he took the batton and ran with it further. John Smith Improved it to X, Blair came along and improved it to X plus Y and that Y was pretty much +10 . Thats just me reading your data. Even when he was elected PM and it dipped slightly, it was still at X but it was higher than X by around ten for the vast majority of the 3 years from 94 to 97. The data disproves what you said Fortuitous circumstances is covering an improvement of 25% in the polls over 3 years. That bit in bold just isn't true, you may well be arguing this was nothing to with Blair, I'd suggest that was not true at all
  4. There is no point in the graph after Blair taking over to getting elected that the graph ever goes below where John Smith took the graph to, in fact it looks to be an average of at least ten points above that. And the greatest jump in that graph is after Blair gets elected not before, so the riding on the success of John Smith claim is not showing in the data at all
  5. Another one of these.... Greenland is further North, South, East and West of Iceland
  6. On the related subject of public transport and it's improvement
  7. I'd say round here the more affluent areas are less liekly to have them or want them
  8. Going back to another thread from earlier and Levi’s 501 commercials, I’m currently playing this
  9. Do US carrier bags not come with holes in to prevent small children suffocating? She's one future Darwin Award winner in the second tweet
  10. NO! Big In Japan were a legendary Liverpool band of the Eric's era. Bands with members before they were famous don't come more legendary than Big In Japan. Members of BIJ were Jane Casey (Pink Military / Industry, also a well known Liverpool "creative", former Director of the now defunct Ferstival of Comedy and also employed behind the scenes at Cream during its peak) Bill Drummond (KLF and former manager of Bunnymen / Teardrop Explodes) Holly Johnson (Frankie frontman) Budgie (Formerly of the Spitfire Boys, laterly a Banshee and half of The Creatures but also in The Slits) Cliver Langer (huge record producer, look him up, also co-wrote Shipbuilding with Elvis Costello) Dave Balfe (Dalek I Love You, Teardrop Explodes and half of Food Records, also Zoo Records with Drummond in this era, persuaded Blur to change their name from Seymour and is the inspiration behind Country House) Ambrose Reynolds (Again Pink Industry then Urban Strawberry Lunch - ran the famous Liverpool Landmark The Bombed Out CHurch until forced out just before the Pandemic by words removed the council forced upon him - lovely bloke and another reason to hate the Liverpool Council) Legendary unheard of bands don't come bigger than Big In Japan, every member went on to become much more well known
  11. This puts you in the Cosmic Scally ballpark NB There's nothing wrong with Floyd
  12. I guess I'd be in the middle of the X Axis on the Old side. I'm still discovering old stuff I like and the same for new
  13. I've never liked what I would consider to be mainstream music. I've always looked for something that is an alternative to that
  14. I can't imagine why anyone would
  15. That would have been me. i've only heard a couple of tracks because I'm trying to avoid it until I actually buy it. I already own Squid records, so I know they are a band I like. They are in the same nu-post-punk ranty ballpark as Idles (who I'm not a fan of), Shame (I liked their last album but I'm wavering on the current one), Parquet Courts (really liked the last album) etc but to my ears Squid are the best of the bunch. All the others mentioned are a bit one dimensional, they've found a formula and they stick to it. Drawing a parrallel back to the original post-punk era, that's sort of the Gang of Four approach. Squid on the other hand really do go all over the place, there's so many more ideas and styles in there compared to their contemporaries and that for me is why I really like them, they aren't afraid to go to completely different places in each song
  16. I suffered enough of it to reach a point where I spotted a Burberry baseball cap Definitely an Oasis tribute band and that's from listening in a pair of buggered headphones at work.
  17. I've just had a thought about this. And you not having heard of the Courteeners (and me the DMAs) is because music exists in totally different and separate sphere's, much more than it ever did before. In the '80s and the '90s there were still a smallish number of radio stations and whilst everyone listened to their particular choice, you knew about lots more types of music than you own particular taste because there was a weekly music press and it all sort of got tied up in the NME or your publication of choice. Music press is now monthly magazines and IF we read them, we stick to the one's more in tune with our tastes. The Music scene in general is probably more varied than it's every been but at the same time its much harder to have your finger on the pulse of everything. We limit ourselves to our bubbles because otherwise its just too much information. The internet hasn't helped the punter in this regard either. These bubbles can be targeted much more specifically too, especially in the internet age. The internet probably knows I won't like the DNAs so doesn't bother pushing me in their direction, it knows I have too much taste for that but these gullible younger fools will lap it up. I find as a punter it is increasingly harder to look out for new acts that I'll like and try. The one's I've already made a connection with will always be there and tools like spotify will suggest others but Spotify is actually mutating in a direction that irritates me in this regard (and others) Anyway.... TL:DR we aren't meant to know about these acts
  18. I'm really pleased that you're finally getting your jab @Genie As is everyone else that reads this thread
  19. I'm a fan of a good number of current Aussie acts, it's a scene I'm very aware of. Courtney Barnett, Pond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and a good few more besides. The Australian music scene is not 25 years behind us, it is very much of the moment Still hadn't heard of the DNAs until today
  20. Brings a whole new meaning to the trade mark Action Slacks
