I thought he was pretty decent today, played quite a few passes that people would have been creaming themselves about if Veretout had played them. He did get a bit lucky with the penalty decision, but the ball was just played against his arm from a few feet away while his arm was in a natural position by his side - seen them given, but it would have been harsh and nothing he could have done to avoid it.

While he didn't seem to have a particularly good game, he had a 93% pass success rate apparently, highest in our team. I'm sure he would benefit from a run of games, but not sure he will get that chance.

No chance with the goal, great save from the free kick.

His general play seems a lot better than when he first came in, but he had at least two or three big headed chances and failed to get any on target.

He was having a good game, some good tackles and seemed to be getting rid of the ball a lot quicker than normal. Loss.

Maybe Sherwood telling him he would be shit when they aren't just lumping the ball into the box for him has affected him on a deeply subconscious level.

There is no need for the club to take such a weak and defeatist attitude as that. There are plenty of recent examples of players not just being able to leave their club when they want - due to their contract. Obviously I don't know the finer details of his contract, but with so long left on his deal, he would not seem to be in the box seat. We can keep him, or sell if a worthwhile deal is offered, but if you think we should roll over when Daniel Levy comes and offers us 5m Euros because the player wants to go...

I fully understand the implications thanks, my point was not about that but about binding contracts. He can go if we say he can go.

Perhaps someone should explain to him what signing a five year contract actually means. He is ours, and we can take him all the way down to the Conference before his contract is up.

Newcastle have a squad with more quality and better balance than we do. They have a more experienced manager, had a couple of good results behind them, and were at home. Perhaps over the 90 minutes they edged it, but for 25-30 minutes we murdered them. One point is less then we wanted, but all things considered it is one more than most expected. I'm not going to blame the manager or the players for not winning. There have been plenty of games this season where they have deserved slagging off, I don't think this is one of them.

Possibly, but there was a Newcastle player standing right in front of him when the shot was hit, think he would have saved it otherwise.

Very poor in the first half, improved in the second. The biggest surprise was Sanchez and waterlogged pitch not resulting in late match losing comedy/tragedy.

I can't believe people are saying he had a bad game. He put in so much effort and was easily our best player until Ayew turned up in the second half.

I would put everything into getting the best striker possible, that is the only way we would have a chance. LB is a pressing issue since Amavi's injury, but a left back can't save us, a striker could.

I thought he was very quiet today, couple of sideways runs in the first half, barely touched it in the second.

He has so much to improve on, but I don't think I have ever seen a player who can do what he can.

Poor today, but by no means the worst game he has had for us against Arsenal.

He fluffed his big chance today, but we put in a lot more crosses once he went off.

He did ok today, I thought he would get absolutely taken to the cleaners but he held up reasonably well for the most part.

Strolled around, made a couple of passes, appalling lack of effort for their second goal. He has been improving but I didn't see anything today in that performance.
