Then we should all stand back and applaud the man that he wasn't scared of giving it a go just because there was a (pretty good) chance that he might not succeed, not ridicule him for not being the player he once was or thought he could be again - all in his desire to help the club that he loves.

He says they've measured his fitness and it's almost the same level as before he retired. He is a leader, a fighter and cares infinitely more about the Villa than imposters like Lescott and Gabby. He actively wants to play for Villa and help get us back to where we belong. It's not club PR since, apart from letting him train, it's nothing to do with the club yet. It's certainly not about money either. Give him a playing/coaching role so that he can instill some belief and determination into the squad and just let him see what he can do in odd appearances - he might just prove the doubters wrong.

We'd be crazy to let him go now after supporting him through injuries for so long, especially the last contract. He's still only 23 and looks to be a star Championship player.
