djamfisher
Have you something against Irish people or, are you just being your ignorant self? How do you take that comment to mean he has something against the Irish, all he was insnuating is that the majority of Irish football seem to support United. Not exactly a xenophobic comment, or anything, and to be fair it does seem to be the case. You seem to be a bit over sensitive, and a member of the PC brigade. Morpheus
the best players in the world make mistakes like that. it happens. it happens moreso when you're a 21 year old I'm not saying that players don't make mistakes. Of course they do but Benteke should have enough about him by now to know when to shield and hold the ball up and when to pass when your team's under pressure. FFS I was taught that at trials for school boy internationals and even before that by my P.E teacher but i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Morpheus
No I just have something against 'fans' like you. Fans who moan about absolutely everything, seldom bother to take the positives and do all this from their armchair. Or could it be that you just can't take criticism. Yes mate years ago. As far as Benteke is concerned i agree thats what he was trying to do but he would have been better holding onto the ball when it was so close to the end of the game and thats my point. Otherwise he did put in a terrific performance and one would hope that someone at the club will pull him asside and tell him not to do it again. Mantis
It's quite telling that in a fantastic performance where he created a goal out of nothing for another player and then was involved in the build-up for the second goal that you focus on one small mistake that indirectly contributed to the opposition getting one of their goals. Ikantcpell
This guy has the potential to be a huge star in the PL..the only bad thing is that iam already worried about losing him to a richer club..

leviramsey Posted November 12, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted November 12, 2012 not arguing with the quality of the A-league... will hopefully see emily play against the victory in melb next month... was interested to read that del piero is now the best paid athlete in australia among all team ball-sports - amazing stat! It's not that surprising... AFL salary cap: A$8.8m = US$9.2m = 5.8m pounds, highest paid player makes A$1.2m NRL salary cap: A$5.3m = US$5.5m = 3.5m pounds, highest paid player makes A$630k For a number of years, AFLers with good long-range accuracy have been switching codes after retirement to come to the NFL as punting specialists (typically the least-paid position on an NFL team) and making better money than they did back home (the major examples of this being Ben Graham, Saverio Rocca, and Darren Bennett). Wrong again Mantis. I have already complemented his overall performance elsewhere and stated that i may have been wrong about him. Having already stated that, i then focused on his mistake which cost us a point. Goes to prove that anyone accusing me of a lack of objectivity is being a hypocrite. Nope nothing to do with my previous comments which at the time were based on his current performances. I also remember quite a few other posters who didn't rate him either. I have focused on his mistake because it cost us a point.
AndyM3000
His mistake did not cost us a point. You can blame that last goal on 4 players. Bannan for losing the ball, then Benteke for giving it away. KEA for giving away the foul, Stevens for not defending properly. That is just one goal too, we conceded 2 more. brummybloke
he had a good game i think, he is starting to put in decent performances on a consistant level, something we need when gabby has but 1 goal to his name in the last 30 league games. i still would prefer benteke and bent up front with gabby to provide the pace weiman as a good sub ( i know he played well the other day) we need to stop the long punts up to him though, there is far more to his game than jumping for the ball all the time, mixing it up would be far better for the team and for the players
Morpheus
And that will be the cure will it? Someone will say "Benteke dont do that again" and he wont? from someone saying that to him he will never again play a bad pass, or make a wrong decision? I would hazard a guess that one of the reasons why you have coaches, managers and videos is that they can point out to a player where he can do better. In Benteke's case i would indeed suggest that any of the above mediums would very quickly point out to him that in future when trying to close out a game, when you are under pressure, you do not try to play a square pass in front of your defence, when it would be better for your team to hold onto the ball. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the players have also had a quiet word in his ear and if they haven't then it is up to the manager to do that. Shearer pointed it out on MOTD that Benteke should have held onto the ball and i am also stating it. Just wondering if Bent had done the same thing (he wouldn't have) would you be defending him just as vigorously? I would sincerely doubt it. Mantis
Oh so it was Benteke's fault for the other 2 goals as well? If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have even scored our goals. Exactly. Utterly ridiculous how some are almost trying to lay the blame square on the shoulders of Benteke, when he's one of the last people that can be blamed given that he was instrumental in us scoring those two goals in the first place. He's an easy target because he's "inexperienced".
