My loudest may be more down to venue than band.

Down the murky end of Cardiff Bay when it was 90% wasteland there was a place called The New Ocean Club. Properly situated out in the foggy middle of nowhere like some Dickensian venue, the nearest neighbours would be tethered travellers’ horses.

Anyhoo, the three loudest gigs I’ve ever attended, gigs that had sound punching my chest and left me temporarily deaf, were all in that club.

Dr Feelgood

Nine Below Zero

Big Sound Authority

Big Sound Authority were an ok power pop band, nothing particularly special about them whatsoever. So for them to be top 3 loud, it’s completely and utterly down to the venue and its location with no neighbours. Right?

I still love and play BSA's hit, this house. It will get a play later on I think.

If we are talking loud back in the 90s I went with my wife to see the bands supporting Echobelly at the civic. My wife loved Kinky Machine and the band they became, Rialto and I loved Bennet. Bennet were a bit of an oddity, they were a pretty much bog standard indie band on Roadrunner records, but I loved them. Bennet made my ears bleed. **** ridiculously loud. My ears were still ringing decades later. Other than that caught a few songs of Echobelly and went for chips. Echobelly were filed in the drawer of shit that Shed 7 and Oasis occupy.

I’m hearing 60s influence in this song also Bowie , Floyd , Talking Heads

Oh come on, I'm no fan of Echobelly but certainly wouldn't put them in that bracket :D

I didn't feel they had any songs, at all. Not as obnoxious as the other two but nothing of any note. I have their debut album and I could not think of a single song on there.

King of the Kerb, indie disco classic. The rest is pretty forgettable but at least whateverhername is could actually sing which puts them several rungs above the two :D

This thread is fast becoming a general music conversation.

Anyways, up until this point I've only ever really messed around with recording, it wasn't something that I've put a lot of time into, I really wanna change that though and now that I've got my Fender Mustang that means that I'll need to switch between that and my Spark amp if I wanna record any bass.

along with the looper pedal and audio interface there is far too many cables to even consider just setting up on the coffee table for half an hour of messing around.

I've rearranged the entire living room and bought myself a desk and stool so I can have my own little recording base where everything is plugged in and ready to go whenever I want.

I actually really like their 'everyones got one' album.  Father ruler king computer, give her a gun, insominiac.  They remind me of good times at uni and sneaking into the octagon in Sheffield to get Sonia's autograph.  I disturbed their meal.  Whoops.  It's strange I saw this post as my best friend at uni passed away on the weekend and I've been recalling memories with him.  This being one of them.

Syd Barratt?

On paper, this is not really my sort of thing, however... it's 'earwormed' me. 👍

@veloman will have noted John Shepard's silver Ludwig kit. I never know which one he'll bring to a gig!

Other geek details:

Epiphone J200

Italia 12 string

Fender Precision bass

Song being played: Dylan's 'My Back Pages'

Indeed I did ! Vintage too I think; if the old style Ludwig logo is anything to go by. I had a kit of Ludwig and stupidly traded them in for a more "modern" kit of Rogers , which were not nearly as good. Much worse though; I was talking to a well known B/ham muso who I was lucky enough to play with a few times. He had a Hofner 'violin' bass; I asked him if he still had it and he admitted that he sold it some years ago, never thinking how much it might appreciate. How many of us have done that sort of thing. :(
