Seeds for the world cup will be the world rankings on the 17th of October. So a country like Colombia might be seeded even though they haven't qualified for the world cup since 98, and a team like Portugal won't be.

I think it makes sense that your seeding is based on current ranking/ability rather than past glory. Now in saying that, how accurate those world rankings are is a totally separate discussion. But the logic is right IMO.

Report on the radio seemed to think it was the world ranking as of now and England were 17th so wouldn't be seeded.

Belgium are in the top 16 now aren't they?

Going to be some very strong groups, could actually be a decent world cup to watch right from the start for the first time in a while.

No it's the October world rankings which come out on the 17th of this month. If England qualify they will not be seeded as they will not be able to make up the rankings to the top 8 by then, even with 2 wins.

Armenia currently introducing the cat to the pigeons in group B.

Beating Bulgaria 1-0 at half time opening the door a little bit for Denmark later today. I say a little bit because Denmark are home to Italy. If (when) the Czechs beat Malta, the race for second place could be as follows by the end of today.

Bulgaria 13pts

Czech 12

Armenia 12

Denmark 12

That would leave the final day very interesting.

Bulgaria v Czech Republic

Denmark v Malta

Italy v Armenia

Benteke will be sweating over his starting place now

They think the world of him. He won't be sweating at all IMO.
