The year's not quite over, but December is typically a slow month for new music, so let's get this show on the road. Here's last year's thread for reference.

Favourites? Disappointments? Feel free to add those you played a hell of a lot this year that weren't released in 2012 as well. YouTube/other sample links are appreciated by all!

Overall:

Not exactly a classic year for new releases, but at least I didn’t really feel like I was scrabbling to name 10 this time around.

Probably my biggest disappointment of the year was Soundgarden’s new album – so painfully generic compared to what they used to be capable of. We also lost one of my favourite punk front-men this year – Tony Sly of No Use For A Name – which was obviously a major downer.

Loving these from this year:

Django Django - Django Django

TOY - TOY

Tame Impala - Lonerisms

Beach House - Bloom

The Horrors - Skying

The Duke Spirit - Bruiser (actually 2011 but heard it far too late!)

Public Image Limited - This is PiL

Massive disappointments:

Nathan Fake - Steam Days

The xx - Coexist (this might be the most boring album I've ever heard)

The one I hide from my missus as I'm a little ashamed but it does sound good:

Lana Del Rey - Paradise

I've not really sunk my teeth into much music this year, I couldn't even give you 10 albums that I've bought, never mind my top 10.

These are my favourites though.

1. Life is elsewhere - Little Comets

2. An Awesome wave - Alt-J

2. Lonerism - Tame Impala

With an honourale mention to El Camino by the Black Keys, which misses out by a couple of weeks.

Love this.

Real and amazing instruments - historic, electronic, architectural and even geological.

Top notch players and singers.

It's been made the hard way - they lugged an analogue reel to reel around the globe, rather than simply dipping into sample banks.

Can't fault it: conception, songwriting, instrumentation, vox, arrangements and production - A***

Serious Hi Fi that It doesn't take itself seriously. eu0iko.gif

Sea shanty with fat beats

Youtube doesn't do the production justice - It's SWEET.

Oh yeah, Sigur Ros actually I have heard of (although I couldn't name a song of theirs, or an album, or even if it's a band or a person)

Richard Hawley? Nope, never.
