Deluded funts. Lose 4-0 to a L1 side and Vlaar would still be 'their weakest central defender by some distance'

I hate them even more now. I can't wait until they're completely irrelevant. Keep at it agent LVG.

In fairness, if you're a side that wants to be challenging for the title, you'd probably be a little bit alarmed at being linked with a defender who has regularly played in a relegation-threatened team that concedes a lot of goals.

Yeah but he had a decent World Cup so now he is the best defender ever and is worth £40m.

Said no-one ever.

There was a quote on the other page saying we should be holding out for £10m + Welbeck + Kagawa. That equates to about £40m right there.

Also people mentioning Man United spending £60m on Di Maria ( A CL winning attacker ) like Vlaar is in the same bracket.

He is average and has been part of one of the worst back fours we have ever had. Can you blame man united fans for thinking he is not good enough for them. They should be going out and getting geniune world class talent. Vlaar will not improve them, no matter how important he is to us.

...and why do people get so butt hurt when another forum's fans don't rate their player???

Take out a few games at the World Cup and base solely on what you have seen in a Villa shirt would you say he is Manchester United class?

Also, if he was, then why haven't they signed him, his international manager who worked with him so closely?

Year left on his deal, we have never been able to hold off a club like United signing up our stars

Yes.

What a ridiculous piece of reasoning. They haven't signed him therefore he's not good enough for them. Incredible.

They clearly haven't even tried to sign him though.

Well he's no Luke Shaw, obviously. Maybe he hasn't been approached because Utd have made it pretty clear they'd rather make marquee signings for positions they're already competitive in than address the obvious deficiencies in their squad. Probably because it would involve being a bit more utilitarian and having to sign one or two "unknowns" like Vlaar, which as those RedCafe quotes show, will go down badly with a fanbase whose expectations have no bearing on the situation they find themselves in.

This is exactly why I think they haven't approached him. They know he is good enough but pride is stopping them from making the bid. If they get desperate they will swallow that pride and approach us IMO.

Hope not though.

You have to remember. This is a fan base that feel they can still win the league.
