My concern is the Birmingham mail ran a poll last week before all the OGS frenzy which showed lambert was the fans choice

They need to re-run that poll now OGS is a possible

Show randy we want OGS

I do think Villa have researchers that will be scanning the major forums and other media. I recall when it was suggested we were seriously looking into Steve McLaren last season and within hours almost of complete fan uproar on the forums the club officially acknowledged he was no longer a target.. Now I doubt McLaren turned us down, I think it was a case of the fans have spoken..

OGS was possible last week. Just nobody considered a guy for manager of Aston Villa whose senior managerial experience ran to 12 months managing in a second rate league.

Nice theory. Not sure the appointment of McLeish would back it up though.

Di matteo Linked big time on the back pages tomorrow.

He's in the mix for the Chelsea job according to the BBC. In the same article there is a video interview which states there is no time scale for them to find their new boss.. If they aren't in a hurry and we are looking to wrap this up by the end of this week then Di Matteo is out of the running for Villa by default.

Haven't seen anyone anywhere state we are looking to wrap this up by the end of the week. Wouldn't make sense for Villa not to employ the perfect manager over a self imposed deadline...

Not that I want RDM...

Could have been a case that they gave in to the fans over that and weren't going to do it a second time in one managerial hunt. Though like you say it's just a theory, we'll never know what they really do regarding fan response around times like this.

I think he has something special about him. Worst case scenario: He's only slightly better than McLeish.
Surely the worst case scenario would be that he turns out to be worse than McLeish? I don't think there's much chance he will be, if and when etc, but there's a chance that he could be appointed and go on to be an unmitigated disaster.

I'm glad the club are really thinking about this and not rushing in.

OGS clearly wants to come. Why else would he talk about that clause? He could have easily said he didn't want the job.

We seem to be looking at other options and hopefully Lerner makes the right decision.

Can't see it. I think after the Champions League win RDM will get the Chelsea job. I wouldn't want him at Villa but from a Chelsea perspective it would be hard to deny him the job.

If Chelsea don't go for him he'll use his Champions League win to get any job in Europe, he wouldn't choose us.

True true...

*edited... I don't half talk a load of shit after 11pm*

Right now the only explanation for OGS comments are he is either incredibly desperate for the Villa job, or he knows an offer is imminent.

The Villa job is a good one, but there will be many similar opportunities within the next 6 - 12 months. QPR, Wigan etc etc (I know you won't like that, but the reality is we aren't as big as we once were and think we are). So I would like to conclude that he knows an offer is imminent.

Come on Randy, sign him up.

It's not so much that I wouldn't want him. He's obviously a massive step up from McLeish and I'd take him over the likes of Bruce, Curbishley and McCarthy. However, I'd much prefer OGS for example over RDM. People on here made good points with regards to RDM and about how his success with Chelsea has been mainly down to letting the Chelsea old guard have their own way.

Also, he's a Chelsea legend. I know OGS is a United legend but that's as a player. As a manager he could be our man, bit like Moyes at Everton for example. We need a manager to come in and make a name for himself here and stay with us for a long time.

genuinely not sure that's possible

the guy is a winner, it's in his blood. mcleish on the other hand was happy just not to be too much of a loser. that alone should be enough to actually see even a slight improvement, managerial abilities aside
